One of the things I hate about the RF-20 remote is its inability to selectively turn on/off only select components when a macro is set. For example, say I have a TV, Receiver, and DVD player. With the URC-200, I can create a Macro that says: from MAIN-header when ON is pressed, turn on TV AND Receiver. This way when I'm in DVD-header, if I push ON the DVD player will turn on but nothing else. Or if I'm in TV-header and I press ON, only the TV will turn on (not the receiver as well).

With the RF-20, if I set a Macro for TV and Receiver to turn on from MAIN-header I'm prevented from being able to turn on any other components. Every time I hit ON, it turns on/off my TV and Receiver (regardless of what header is displayed on the remote). I called Universal Remote Control and they said this is a feature of the RF-20. Seems a horrible design change to me.

Is there some other way to get my TV and Receiver to turn on and off together with the push of one button while still retaining the ability to selectively turn on and off other components?

The ON & OFF macros are global, same macro shows in all devices. But have you tried putting a delay at the start of the macro, so it becomes a push and hold macro. Make the first steps in the macro two presses of the Pause key, each press of the pause key puts .5 second delay.

With a delay (press and hold), I will have a macro for On/Off but still be able to turn on my DVD player without turning off my TV/Receiver (I just don't press and hold)?

I think making ON & OFF global is a bad idea.

Yes, but if you wanted to fire the macro from the dvd device, you can't prevent the dvd power command from firing too.

Jtodd, I agree. I don't like the RF-20 for this reason too. ON/OFF button as global macros is useless to me. Makes more sense to go to MAIN and be able to power on multiple stuff from there and then have individual turn on in other components.

Another option is to not use the Global ON Macro, and just set up the Component Buttons as Macros. So from MAIN, make the following macros
1) TV soft button: Send TV on, Receiver On, set it to your favorite channel
2) DVD soft button: Send TV on, Receiver On, Send DVD on, Set TV to DVD input.
3) TIVO soft button: Send TV on, Receiver On, Set TV to Tivo input. (I assume Tivo is on all the time, so no Tivo ON needed)

You can use the Global OFF button - Have it turn off all devices.
Leave the ON button to just turn on individual components as needed.

You want to watch TV, press Main - TV
You want to watch a DVD, press Main - DVD, etc
