I asked the Geek Squad for a manual on my Harmony 890. I was told "they" are the manual, and any attempt by me to program the remote will void any warranty. I feel helpless, and have to call them with each problem. MY QUESTION: Did the Geek Squad have to use a password to communicate with Logitech? If so, might I need that password in the future? Thanks.

They would have had to setup the online account for programming the remote, so in order for you to make changes you'd need that id and password. But nothing is stopping you from creating a new account and doing your own programming - there is no warranty impact, at least not from a logitech standpoint (I don't think). If geek squad gave you their own warranty then that's a different matter. What they're probably saying is they did the setup and will support it but if you go trying to change it behind their backs they won't support it. That's reasonable (if you're actually paying them to support it).

Hi there,

In order to setup a Harmony remote, you would need to create a login id and password. It sounds like Geek Squad doesn't want you customizing the remote. IMO, you paid for the remote so you should be able to customize it to your heart's content. Based on my experiences, I have the feeling Geek Squad doesn't want their customers customizing the remote because once they have the remote working properly, they don't want their customers accidently messing up the remote's configuration and calling them to come back and fix it for free.

The Good news is that despite what Geek Squad says, you can customize your remote. Even if you don't have the password. If the Harmony Software is not on your computer, then download it at www.logitech.com

Then, on the login page, click "I forgot my password". The software will ask you if you have the remote. Plug in the remote, select "Yes" and click Next. You will then have access to your account and be free to customize the remote. Once in your account and can also change the password.

Quick little correction. Connecting the remote will only allow you to obtain your login ID. Once you aquire your login ID, call Customer Support and ask them to reset your password. You also could create a new account like akirby said, however, that can take some time.

Once you are in the account, you will be able to view and print the user manual

I wasn't sure if you could figure out the login id that GS used. If you can, then you should be able to get the password and use the same account, but don't expect GS to help if you have problems.
