I have a 620 and read on another thread that someone had set up his >>| button to make the DVR skip 30 seconds at a time when watching recorded shows. Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks

First you find the 30 second skip command, then map it to that key. If there is no 30 second skip command then you'd have to create some type of sequence (up to 5 commands) to do it - may or may not be possible. Which DVR?

I have the Scientific Atlantic 8300. It doesnt have a 30 sec. skip as an option. But I was hoping there was a way to program it in.

I also have the SA8300HD, and I press the FF (Fast Forward) button usually 3 times (4 times for very long commercials), then the 8 sec Replay button once or twice. If you want, you can use the activity sequence function to map a sequence of 3 FF to a key. My Replay function is actually a sequence of 2 commands: Play + Replay. The Play command, preceding the Replay, is used to reset the FF counter to overcome a bug in my current SA8300HD software. Note: I used to have a VCR with both a 30 sec skip and a FF function and found the FF function a lot more convenient than the 30 sec skip specially with long commercials.

Would you mind explaining what you mean by this? I also have the SA8300HD. When I hit the FF button the picture continues to advance until I hit FF (or Play) again. So I guess I'm confused when you say that you "press the FF (Fast Forward) button usually 3 times (4 times for very long commercials)". If there is no timing associated with the press of a button, how can you program a macro/sequence so that the command knows when to stop performing that function?
There are only 2 types of people in the world....those I like, and those I don't. Remember, the only reason some people are alive is because it's illegal to shoot them.

If you push the FFwd key three times it won't stop until you press play. Some receivers have a sec skip built in and you can map the command to any key on your remote. If your device does not have that function then you are out of luck

Like Rehaz1 said, you have to press Play or Replay to stop the FF function. My FF function is not a sequence and is mapped to my 680 Skip (>>|) key. My Replay function is a sequence (Play+Replay as explained above) and is mapped to my 680 Replay (|<<) key.

Note: The SA8300HD does NOT have a 30 sec skip and even if it did, I would still use the more convenient FF/Replay method.
