Hello,

I am trying to set up a Harmony 550 and I can't seem to get the activities right. It is a pretty simple set up I am trying to control. I only need 2 activities 'Watch TV' and 'Watch a DVD'. I ran component video from the DVD and cable box to the reciever and then out to the TV so I only need to switch from video 1 to video 2 on the reciever. I programmed all the IR codes and everything seems to be working but the activities are not.

When I use the wizard to set them up for some reason I can not manually delete an action but only add new actions. The wizard wants to switch the reciever to AUX every time. Also when it switches to DVD it hits component on the TV which switches it to component 2. I wish there was a way to only have it power on the TV and cable box and switch to video 1 on the reciever or power on DVD player and switch to video 2 on reciever. No other actions are necessary since that is the only input on the TV. I have tried and tried but I don't see any way to delete these actions that the wizard thinks I need. I would really appreciate any help to get this working propoerly.

Tommy

That's because you're looking in the wrong place. Input selection is done at the device level - the activity only tells the device which input to use and the device figures it out from there. So go back and check the input setup for each device (Device->Options->Adjust Inputs). In your case you can setup the TV to just have one input (component 1) since that's all you'll be using. Sounds like your activity is choosing the Aux input on the receiver (re-run the activity setup) or you have the wrong command associated with the receiver input selection. Re-run the setup adjustment for the receiver.

You can go into Device mode and try the various input selection commands so that you know which ones to use. If your devices use a cycle input selection (cycles through the various options) your input list must match the device exactly. If you have discretes (one button always goes to a specific input) then the order doesn't matter.

Thank you so much for your reply. This is my first time trying to set up one of these remotes so sorry if my questions seem dumb.

I have spent some more time and I think I got the AV reciever set up properly. There was something I did on the initial set up that messed me up. I deleted the activities and re-ran the wizard and everything looks good as far as that goes.

The one thing Im am unsure of is the TV. I went Devices->Settings->Adjust Inputs and changed it from 'I go directly to the input I want' to 'I flip through the inputs until I get the right one'. I thought this may be better since there is a dedicated Component input button but its toggles between Comp 1 and Comp 2. There is no 'I don't need to change Inputs ever' option as I had hoped.

The next page brings up a list of Inputs on the TV which is accurate. Do you think I should delete all the other names of inputs except Comp 1? I have Comp 1 selected as the input in both activities but I just hope that it does not try to change anything when switching between activities. I seem to remember one time it changed from Comp1 to Comp2 when I was switching from watch TV to watch a DVD when I tested it before. Unfortunately this is not my home setup to test on and I do not own a laptop so I would love to get this right before I run back out there.

Thank you so much for the help.

You can leave component 1 and component 2 as inputs and tell it you use the component button to cycle between them. Then in each activity select component 1 as the required TV input. The first time you may have to hit HELP to get the remote in sync with the TV but after that it should stay on component 1.
