I just bought a Magnavox VHS - DVD recorder... I am cartoons and movies, so I can get rid of all the clutter in my messy house, I thought I could start by recording them and then getting rid of them. But I cant get passed the first few seconds...because of the copy write thing, I need help! :) Any suggestions?

Get another VCR...preferrebly an old one, but I think a new one will work too. Plug the outputs of that VCR into the inputs of the recorder and see if it works.

I use a standalone VCR connected to a standalone DVD Recorder (Liteon) and it works in this way.

Your situatuion may depend but it may work with a new one. Old (circa 1991-1992 or earlier) will not even recoginze the protection.

Or dubbing the VHS to another VHS might get rid of it.

You could also do it with a computer...but it'll be more complicated.

you need a pre-collusion era vcr. a non-HQ vcr. High-Quality bull-$hit, the only circuity different from non-HQ is the copy-protection circuitry need for macrovision encoded tapes.

For the OP, check out the sima GoDvd unit.

Assuming you're trying to copy VHS to DVD...no VCR is going to help you.
Macrovision is detected by the recording device (DVD), it has nothing to do with the playback device (VHS).
Macrovision is encoded into the vertical interval, the playback device doesn't know about it, and doesn't care.

The playback device does matter in this case, to use device like the sima, it needs to be in the path between the VCR and dvdr. You can't do that with a vcr/dvd combo unit like the OP has.

Automan, you're pathetic. Edmund is right.

Google "macrovision stripper." Hook one of these up in line between a VCR and your recorder and you'll be good to go.

I don't know why, but I've had success using a newer one (HQ). I'm stumped as to why it works, but it does.

An old one will definitely work. But apparently some new ones work too. And if they don't, get the macrovision stripper.

I'm not sure how qualified you are to be saying who is stupid.

If the VCR strips out the offending MV, then the playback device does matter. There are also ways to get many DVDRs to ignore MV. (search at videohelp.com) Or the Sima device in the middle. Lots of solutions.

Why would a VCR strip out 1 line of the vertical interval, upon playback?
