Get another VCR...preferrebly an old one, but I think a new one will work too. Plug the outputs of that VCR into the inputs of the recorder and see if it works.

I use a standalone VCR connected to a standalone DVD Recorder (Liteon) and it works in this way.

Your situatuion may depend but it may work with a new one. Old (circa 1991-1992 or earlier) will not even recoginze the protection.

Or dubbing the VHS to another VHS might get rid of it.

You could also do it with a computer...but it'll be more complicated.
