Hello,
I'm considering purchasing the Panasonic DMR ES10 DVD recorder. I'm trying to get as many reviews as possible before making up my mind. The few that I've found were favorable. Does anyone here own the DMR ES10, and if so, would you recommend it as a wise choice for a DVD recorder. Thanks.

Buck 7,

I have had the ES10 for about 3 weeks now and absolutely love it. I have recorded over 45 movies so far without one single hitch. I record from a TiVo unit so I didn't feel that I really needed a recorder with a hard drive. A hard drive unit would be nice for dubbing, however if you don't need that I feel you will be happy with the ES10.

Thanks for the reply. Regarding a HDD recorder, I would like to have one, but I don't want or need the bells and whistles that go with TiVo. Would you have a recommendation for a standalone unit that doesn't require a subscription? Barring that, is there any way to make TiVo work without the phone line and subscription? Thanks again.

We just purchased the Panasonic DMR-ES10. One feature we enjoyed on our previous DVD recorder was the opportunity to preset chapters. Is that not available on this unit?

Buck7,

I case you missed it, the June issue of Sound and Vision mag compares the ES10 with the Philips DVDR 615 and the Pioneer DVR-233. Similar recorders all within $59 of each other. This may help you decide!

It is not possible except on DVD-RAM recording. The ES10 will create chapters (but now menu for them) when you finalize a recording on another format.

I had a an ES10 and it was a very good recorder but I found another unit with features that I just couldn't say no to. What I got instead does dvd + & - rw's and r's, supports DL blanks, plays back divx and xvid, I love it!!

Does anyone know a UNIVERSAL Remote that works this unit ?
Please be kind enough to reply.

I am unable to find a Universal Remote to work this DVD Recorder.
I have the One For all URC 8910. I sent it back twice to upgrade.
They were unable to get it to work my ES-10.

The Only thing I dont like about the ES-10, is there is NO Remaining Time display
for DVD Movies. Also there is NO Chapter Display on the Front panel.
I have this unit and wrote nice reviews on Epinions.com and CNET.com

Isn't the 8910 a learning remote? My learning remote worked just fine. I have the MX-500.

Yeah the 8910 can learn, but only about 25 commands for the whole remote.

Right, typical jp1 remote. At least it can do far more than most remotes. Check out the jp1 interface capabilities in the OFA forum.

I believe the person who asked the question has 11 posts, total, and didn't know the remote he already has is more than capable of doing what he needs: NYSOFTWAREMAN

That's the intent of my comment.

Well, that idiot isn't coming back, he was taking care of in the OFA forum. In addition to buring it in this thread, posting it in the wrong forum, HTM/URC,and leading us on like none of the codes worked at all. He was missing only two commands.

People who call those looking for assitance "idiots" are the biggest Jackass of all.
I have put a curse on you. So one day edmund and your family will seek help.
But those around you will turn a blind eye and deaf ear to you!
