I initially did the install in about 2011 and aside from the outdoor speakers that allowed water to enter even though I used silicone on the terminals (covered by warranty) and the multi-channel amplifiers that were doused by water, everything else has worked great. She cares more about art & film and has some hearing loss- likes music but it's not the focus of her life. Hubby loves him some tunes and also likes to stir the pot, so she messaged last night about replacing the TVs in the master BR and family room. I mentioned to him that the Roku could be connected to the AVR instead of the TV and he was receptive to that before, but now she mentioned smart TVs. My plan is to steer toward the separate streaming device because IME, that has been a more reliable method.

The Master BR TV is a Sony and it's fine, but they want something a bit larger. Family Room TV is a higher-up 50" Panasonic Plasma model, possibly V or Z series. Looks freaking great, too. One issue in that room is that the front speakers are Artisan and the wall was framed for them with the TV being close to flush- I explained that without ventilation, making it totally flush wouldn't be a great idea because of the heat.

What brands are most popular or preferred? Still Samsung/LG/Sony?

Family Rm cables can be added/changed easily and I plan to leave the AVR as-is and let the TV up-convert because it works. Front speakers could change but the rest are staying.

Thanks

I've recently had nightmares with a Samsung 50." It's a smart TV that will switch to an input of its choice under some... as yet undefined to me... conditions. It's really hard to program a remote that doesn't have clearly defined channel or input results based on the same button clicks.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Agree to disagree. I really like the new Samsung OLEDs. The LG interface blows, the Sonys can be dogs sometimes (probably a google thing) leaving the Samsung QLEDs and now OLEDs.

I've had no issue with the LG interface once I figured out you can just use the cursor instead of waving the stupid thing around.

And since this is in a full AV system, I don't want to use the 'magic remote'.

Juggling remotes will be a problem.

CEC still on?

I like LG but despise the idiotic "magic remote", and I never use the so called "smart" functions, but instead use a Tivo and Roku.

Glad the LG responds well to IR commands from a URC remote.

Ever notice that a client will always point a remote at the TV?

It's funny when they give the RF remote a little shake as they point it at the TV... like they helping the IR get over there.

Quit trying to explain how it works years ago.
I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.

And they press harder on the buttons when something doesn't work.

The test results are in- moving the remote toward the TV DOES make the IR reach it faster. It's similar to adding 10' to a C-band satellite dish in order to get better signal than a neighbor. :)

This is tons of fun if there is a second function when a button is held.

I found out the hard way that the button with '1' on the remote for the Denon AVR-3311CI can be used to go WOT if the AMP button has been pressed. That was great.......

That shouldn't even be possible.
