It's funny when they give the RF remote a little shake as they point it at the TV... like they helping the IR get over there.
Quit trying to explain how it works years ago.
And they press harder on the buttons when something doesn't work.
The test results are in- moving the remote toward the TV DOES make the IR reach it faster. It's similar to adding 10' to a C-band satellite dish in order to get better signal than a neighbor. :)
