On the flip side -- the Portal designers fixed the extra pages problem for terms and payment when those fields were left blank. So, we are headed in the right direction.

All this bitching about how portal should or shouldn’t blah blah blah, why don’t all of you whining, get off your ass and make a better platform then.

Maybe you should "get off your ass" and update your website pics! (cough cough MX3000 , T1B) BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNN !!

All this bitching is what the thread is about. See the title? Again, the whole idea here is it's not the money, it's the principle... and a few bugs. For what is now a paid service, I will do my due diligence. At $50/month, Jetbuilt looks more polished and could work well for this one-man shop.

Jetbuilt also looks like it has some really nice CRM tools too. Even though it is priced the same as portal it seems like you get a lot more.....hmmm

This bitching has also brought to our attention various other methods in competition with Portal. This itself has been a service to all of us, whether we want(ed) to use Portal or not.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

One of us should bite the bullet and try out Jetbiult for a month and offer a comparison.

We are starting a new companion business over the next few months so I'm not sure I have the time right now, but I would be willing to do it later in the year.

I’m strongly considering it. Maybe since I started the thread I’ll be the GP. I really like the CRM features, if they work that is worth the price right there.

On another note, just today I noticed a pretty big price discrepancy from a very popular vendor that would have cost me nearly $800 bucks had I not caught it. Either Portal has a pricing bug or all their time has been spent on the update and not on keeping up with the pricing.

You aren't alone. I had a number of costly pricing bugs with JVC projectors and Portal. They tried to blame it on the distributor but the disty's list was correct.

I *always* check the pricing before I send or print a report. A lot of times there are sales on manufacturer websites at the end of a model year (Denon) and a product is priced less than usual. Portal often doesn't get the sale pricing in time -- which is understandable -- and the last thing you want is a customer seeing you sell them a product for more than MSRP.

This is something that has to be corrected.  If you have to take the time to go to the manufacturer or disty website to check pricing, you may as well order while you are on their site.

Right, and I wouldn't blame Portal for most of the price issues, or the disty, I would blame the manufacturer (s). I get Sony and Samsung "special pricing" emails Every Week, if not more! I don't know how anyone could keep up on that.

Having worked for the Big Blue juggernaut, and their For Business step-child, I completely understand different systems not talking to each other, sku issues between the Enterprise and partners like Synnex or Tech Data. Sometimes it would take a day or two to get one sku loaded, let alone priced right.

I am currently on the Jetbuilt two-week free promo (truly no credit card required up front). I'm still tweaking things, feel free to PM, call, FB, whatever...

Please post occasionally to let us know how you like Jetbuilt. I'm sure there are many of us who are curious about it.

Very curious to hear your feedback on this after you settle into the product a bit.

Another flaw in the free portion of the portal system.  A client asked me to resend them a proposal we sent a while back.  That counted against my 4 free.  So you cannot resend one that a client couldn't dig up without being dinged.  They essentially made the system unusable without paying.  I am fine for paying when I see the value, but the pricing issues I have seen, the tiny font and images, the glitches I have encountered with the new site all make it a poor value.  I will have to check out Jetbuilt to see if all or at least some of the issues I have encountered with Portal are an issue with their service.

Yes, this is VERY annoying along with the bug where it counts against two even though you are only working on one. Im afraid to say that portal is SERIOUSLY broken right now, and for that very reason we should not have to pay. We can cross the bridge when the system gets up and running like it used to but right now I would be better taking that $50 a month and playing the lottery.

I think this WHOLE THING would have gone over way better had the new site been up and running for a good time and get all the bugs worked out. The pricing issue is a major one, I dont expect it to be perfect but I also dont expect it to cost me major money and have to cross reference every single time. As one said, if were already cross referencing it then whats the point of even ordering (for the guys that do the PO's)

Also another MAJOR flaw in the system, especially if we are to try and get it for free is how can we stagger large jobs and send out PO's when we need to?

Again, there are ALOT of flaws in the system that need to be ironed out before we all get slapped with another monthy bill.

At this point can we just get the old site back?
