How about this one? When I worked for a Mastercraft boat dealer, I went to Syracuse, IN for training and this was in the shop owned by the trainer. They were putting carbon fiber brakes on it and the next time, they were finishing the 4-link swing arm suspension mentioned on the web page. It looked pretty ridiculous on regular tires, though.

I have a 53 GMC truck.  My dad has a 52, my brother has a 54.  The 52 and 53 were the last projects me and my old man worked on before he passed.

I can't help you with any 70's stuff and lowering, but if you're going to do a truck take a serious look at the 50's chevy's and GMC's. As far as restoring a vehicle goes it's about as cost effective as you can get.

You can get all your stuff all the way up to 72 right here.  Solid place.  I purchased everything from door handles, bumpers, and wiring harnesses from Jim Carters.

Thanks

I have specific plans for that 40's or 50's chevy suburban delivery truck
It will be used to pull a hand built Chris craft barrel back.
Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

Nice.  Jim Carter's has everything you need. I love the 50-51 panel vans, are you planning on chopping and lowering it, or keeping it old school?

Do you already own the Chris Craft?  That is a beautiful boat.

2 things I wnat before I die.

an Airstream and a old wooden Chris Craft.

I'm in the process of building the Chris craft from blue prints it will be basically a 22' 1937 barrel back mohogony chrome and blue. I have a picture of "my inspiration" somewhere on Facebook. Let me rephrase this. I started building it then moved cross country to Florida. Everything is in storage.

Wow, you've got a lot of work in front of you.  It'll look sweet when you're done.  Put an old wooden surfboard on top of the panel van.  Friggin' awesome.

Ok, I have the car thing down pat... but I am now interested in trucks... not semi's but 60's and 70's trucks and suv's.

I am now thinking about 2 new projects... the first is a 1940-50 era chevy suburban delivery truck.

The 2nd is a 1972 chevy k5 blazer... the one with the removable top.

Basically I want to take a 1972 chevy k5 blazer and for lack of better words turn it into a daily driver with modern suspension and drivetrain.

I want to keep the truck at stock height or lower it 2 inches. Any ideas where I should start with engineered rear suspensions to replace the factory suspension? And then an engineered front suspension.

i have tried googling but i am getting a lot of crap sites with individual parts and not complete bolt on solutions. i know it exists...

I am also thinking that I would like to put in a modern 2003-2012 chevy Tahoe drivetrain... but im not sure yet.

Basically I am looking for resources for engineered parts and what is actually available.

There is a ton of parts available for the 70s pickup/blazer platform. The chassis/suspension lends itself pretty well to lowering. If you want a lowered one do not start with a 4x4, the front suspension is totally different from the 2wd.

A Tahoe drivetrain would be a great swap. Even better, find a wrecked tahoe or pickup and incorporate as much of it as you can in the older platform (drivetrain and interior stuff).

Cool to see there are other gearheads on here. Playing with cars and trucks is my relief from what I do for a living.
I currently have a little fleet of 80s vintage toyota pickups that I play with. One 2wd and a couple of 4x4s.

Ha ha neither... Just a normal teenager. He isn't going to put in a gangsta hydraulic system or any of that crap.

I think it is in the Genes... I had a 39 Ford with a hi-po corvette 327 back when I was about his age... Broke down weekly, but when it was running, I was on top of the world...

...That is until my dad and the local small town judge struck up a deal... sell the damn car, and your son won't lose his license due to the multiple speeding and negligent driving tickets and I'll reduce the $$$ penalties... Ended up with a 55 Bel air split window sport - with a very wimpy 265 V-8... problem solved. Wish I still had the Bel Air, it'd be worth a lot of $$$ - I sold it to a friend for $175.00.

Yes -- about his hearing and his arrest record. And check to be sure the oil doesn't leak the way it did on that Mercedes.

Why would anyone want to lower a truck? Then you can't go off road with it. I just don't get you city dwellers.....

We hired a car audio installer years ago when we were building car stereo displays for a hi-fi chain. He used the added income to buy himself a cool truck, and lowered it. Looked cool, and it was for getting him to and from the job.

It was lowered so much that it scraped if he put his toolbox in the back. Don't be that idiot.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

LMCtruck.com

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/ -This is a wonderful forum that has evolved into all the old 40's to present trucks.

Currently creating a rat rod 1960 Chevy Apache. 350 with a 700R4 about ready to drop in.

Have fun. The only part I don't like is the wallet is open most of the time. Worse than a boat I think!
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.
