Use TSU9600 Stand to Support but Not Charge - Could it Drain the Battery?

I have just redone my home theater and would like to charge the TSU9600 in one location, but have another charger stand (not plugged in) by the seating area, simply acting as a support for the remote. Will putting the TSU9600 in the charge stand, without plugging it in, drain the battery of the TSU9600?

I realize I could do my own trial, but just thought I would post this to see if anyone has any experience that might suggest this is not a good idea.

I suspect it probably will, but the drain will be very minimal. I had a similar situation and installed a power outlet in the floor near (under) the seating area and plugged the Pronto PSU adapter in and run a line to the stand. Ergo, it is always charging where I use it.

I cheated in that I just ran the power (18 gauge Zip cord) to the seating area uder the rug after notching out the underlayement. Installing a conduit and outlet was just too much work. The power draw is very low and I probably could have used a piece of 300 ohm flat cable and not notched out the underlatment.

Eventually I may change the seats to motorized recliners at which time I will run the coduit and do it right.

Here is one case where battery can be drained for sure. :-) If you have the remote docked and connected via USB and you shutdown the PC followed by powering off the DS charger (power strip switched to off position), the remote can be drained of charge.

Now, for your application:

If you want to do what you suggest and and are concerned about draining, you can always open up the DS using T6 torx wrench and disconnect the ribbon cable inside the unit. There are basically 2 circuit boards. A main board and a connector board. If the ribbon cable between the 2 is not connected, I suspect that the there would be no adverse effect. However, if there is, you could always remove the connector board leaving a hole where the connector is and just sit the remote on the DS. It should rest there just fine with no issues. :-)

I just looked at the DS9600 schematic, and if you don't have a USB or power cable connected, there should be no drain on the TSU9600. A USB connection will definitely drain it, and depending on what is inside the "wall wart" AC adapter, having the adapter connected to the DS9600 but not plugged in could discharge the TSU9600 via leakage through the dock LEDs.

Correct, which I discovered myself recently by accident.

Why not just put a little electrical tape over the connectors of the dock you don't have plugged in?

Because electrical tape can leave some residue? ;-)
