TCPIP from the simulator without mods

Quite by chance, I've discovered that TCPIP works (after a fashion) in the simulator without any modifications such as Jon Welfringer's.  I'm using PEP 2.4.23.0.

I was working at a customer's this week and had my laptop connected to the same wireless network as the Prontos (all 9400s, no extenders, Global Cache and NetCom IP-to-Serial converters).  Checking a few code changes in the simulator I was surprised to hear the Denon AVR power up, and found that I had full control over that and the RussSound audio matrix.

It did seem intermittent: sometimes starting the simulator would result in network access and sometimes it wouldn't.  Unfortunately I didn't have time to investigate the particular circumstances any further, but I have since seen the same thing on a second system at another site.

I was aware from Jon's thread that the TCPIP code was already present in the simulator, but I wasn't aware that it was usable in a standard installation.  Has anyone else had experience of this?

I've always had my hack installed so I've not checked if they finally enabled it in the latest version of PEP. That will surely be a welcome addition if they did!

Andy,

Are you sure you don't have Jon's mod in place?

Sorry about the delayed response - been away for a few days.

I've pretty sure I never installed Jon's mod and have no renamed .exe files floating around. If anyone would care to compare, my file versions are:

msf.exe: file version 1.4.3.22125, date created 04 September 2009 12:17:32
appli.exe: date created 28 April 2010 12:19:52

As I mentioned in the first post the connection seems neither robust nor consistent, but I thought it might at least be of interest to some.

I don't have the hack, and I don't get TCPIP in the sim.

I can send WOL packets from the simulator. Discovered this when I woke my HTPC, by accident, when using the simulator.
"Home" is where my Pronto is.
