Sorry Nasoma, I do not understand your message. I have the new release for SlimPronto all coded but I neeed to do some regression testing. Hopefully that will take place next week.

Sorry Barry, I thought u were not sure if the SlimPronto new release was for PEP2 or 1, I only wan't to let you know that I'm using PEP 2 so for me it is OK to do the programming in PEP2..

And the software SqueezeboxServer-7.4.1 is now for download available.

Hope you now understand what I mean.. Sorry for the bat language usage.

I have been running a squeezebox server for a while now on both Slimpronto and ProntoSqueeze and I still find the controls on my 9600 quite sluggish. Funny though, this is what I read for the new Sonos module:

* Track browsing can be slow when many songs are present.
* In some cases the response time for play, stop, pause commands are slow.

I thought it was my setup (network and/or older server on Athlon 64 X2 4000+ 2.1 GHz) but maybe it is not an issue with my setup at all...

You may need to define Slow, my Pronto squeeze reacts within a second for the Play, Pause etc etc

What type of net work do you have , and what encryption are you running.

Which Firmware and Software ?

Squeezebox 7.4.2 on a Vista server (older Athlon 64 X2 4000+ 2.1 GHz), 128bit WEP because I have not converted my XCF to PEP2. I have 6.0.2.1 firmware on the TSU 9600 because the latest firmware has the self-awakening problem.

Sometimes when I hit a key in either Slimpronto or ProntoSqueeze, it does not work, ever. Sometimes, it is a few seconds and sometimes it is almost instantaneous.

I have
squeeze box server 7.4.20 running on an old P4 3ghz 2 gb Ram
TSU 9600 firmware 7.2.2 ( does not wake up on its own )

slimsqueeze , pronto squeeze and pronto tunes all run fine.

you may want to check your router , AP's and any other network devices, make sure there are no IP clashies. do some speed test by "Pinging" different items on the network and see what the results are.

eg. my music server

Pinging 192.168.0.171 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 192.168.0.171: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

When I ping my music server (which is also on wireless with static IP address), I get the following:

1st attempt:
15ms
3ms
2ms
3ms

2nd attempt:
8ms
40ms
3ms
2ms

3rd attempt:
5ms
2ms
2ms
1ms

0 lost in all cases. The 40 and 15ms look a bit out of place but that's probably understandable on wireless?

What I meant was that my vista music server is on a wireless connection to the router. I am not running anything else on that machine; its sole purpose is to run the squeezebox server (and hold the WAV and MP3 files)

My ping test to the TSU went as follows:
9ms
16ms
12ms
10ms

2nd set:
11ms
7ms
8ms
15ms

0 lost in both sets. That looks normal doesn't it?

Mine come out at

eply from 192.168.0.207: bytes=32 time=11ms TTL=64
eply from 192.168.0.207: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64
eply from 192.168.0.207: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64
eply from 192.168.0.207: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64

which is about normal

some of your slowing down issues may be the wirless connection of your server , depending on the connection strenght the data transfer rate can decline.
can you not hard wire the server?

No, at least not easily. Server/router are in different rooms in a 20-year-old house. The server is next to my home theatre and I cannot bring the router to the server because I have a hard-wired multi-function laser that's not wireless.

Sylvain, you just confused me. Are you saying you cannot run a piece of cat 5e between the server in the theater and the router wherever it is? The maximum run of an ethernet cable between devices is 100 meters. That allows for a lot of silly paths.

In some tricky situations I have taken off the baseboards and trimmed back the sheetrock at the bottom so there was a nice groove. Lots of ways to skin that cat.

Very good Barry! That's an old alarm installer's trick for routing wires around a room on a concrete pad that has no access from above or below.

I install alarms as well as custom audio and with that simple tip and some careful planning you can get wires almost anywhere.

Barry/joeyk201, of course anything is possible. However, I would have to dismantle part of my entertainment center in order to punch holes in the floor behind it and run the cable in the basement. Running the cable would probably be the easy part in the "project". It would be a pain and I was hoping that I could run the entire setup wireless. Is it not supposed to work wireless like Sonos?
