Being the resident uni guru at my company, I was confident in my capabilities to program the new state of the art mx-810 for two separate theater systems (I know, why not sell another remote?). Upon examining the software, I realized that the handy dandy wizard isn't really set up to allow the programmer to create buttons meant only to jump to a specific page, not necessarily a device. example: I can't create a button that says THEATER and then have it jump to a page to select activities for that room. I suppose you try to create a device using a blank template, and then embed macros in the buttons to take you to specific activities labeled per room, but that seems like an awful lot of work to go through when you have to go all the way through the wizard to find out if it will even work.. Does anyone know an easier way, or is the solution to do a 900 or 980?

The solutiom is the 900 or 980. The 810 is really only good for controlling one basic system. You can make it do more but it will take you longer to do since it is not designed for more complex systems. Save yorself the frustration and get a 900 or 980.

anything in the urc lineup besides the 810, it was designed so idiots could program remotes like harmony, smart people get bad headaches trying to make 810's and harmony's do simple things, like page jumps

There's a logical jump. If you can't figure out how to program the remote, you're smart. If you can, you're an idiot.

The remote used as prescribed fills the exact niche for which it was designed: consumer level single room systems. Tool selection is as much a part of the business as anything else. I doubt you'd use a lawnmower to clean your carpet, but that doesn't mean lawnmowers are useless.

I'd agree with BobL, the solution is the 900 or 980.

Boy, I must be a "super genius" because my clients can control multiple zones with my MX-810 programming.

MX-980 is the way to go for you.

Its not that you can't program multiple zones with the 810. Using its wizard it is just not straight forward and needs work arounds to make it happen. Someone figuring this out the first time would probably become frustrated quickly.

...and while yes, enterprising programmers can get the MX-810 to do multiple zones, the remote and wizard were designed for single-room systems. MX-900 and MX-980 were created with the possibility of multi-room systems in mind.

Best regards,
Dale

Aside from the fact that URC has jumped through a lot of hoops to let people know this, why are you calling it "State of The Art"? That would normally denote "Top of The Line", wouldn't it?

It's possible to control more than one zone, but button mapping is needed.

PBF- if you get the training for this model, you would know that you can add commands to each button, so in effect, you can have an activity that includes all of the devices and a button inside of that activity that, which would allow :

Set Receiver to DVD, Set TV to HDMI 1, Audio Mode- Cinema, etc. You decide which devices are in each activity and then add them, as needed.

For those who say these are made for idjits, stop thinking they should conform your narrow-minded idea of the world. Doing the training would eliminate 99.9% of the complaints.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
