The different between DD and dts is the compression. DD use a 10% ratio and dts use a 25% ratio. When you uncompress dts there’s less degradation. The degradation of DD is between 12% to 18%. The loss with dts is only 2% to 8%.

The reason only some movie are released with the dts format is that it competes with other formats.
