We (our family) have a little over 200 DVDs.
As for storage, I've built my own wall mounted
shelves. I have 8 shelves in an area 48 in. wide
and 64 in. high. That gives me room for approximately
730 DVDs depending on how you stack them. I use
a combination of verical & horizontal storage.
With that capacity, these shelves will serve us
a long time since we are buying about 100 DVDs/yr.
Ummmm that would be about 5 years then, at the rate you say. Room addition time....:)
