Strengths:ProntoEdit
Weaknesses:No USB connection, a few more hard buttons would be nice (the NEO seems to have it right).
Review:I researched the remote on this web site, downloading ProntoEdit and some CCF files for my various components. I was able to put together a CCF for my system in an evening. When the remote arrived, I just put in the batteries (I did not buy the base), plugged it into the computer and downloaded my CCF. I had to fix some programming problems with my CCF and some buttons on the downloaded components did not work. The Pronto and ProntoEdit worked flawlessly though and I was able to learn IR codes with the remote hooked into the PC.

Anyone considering this remote should download ProntoEdit first. If you don't like ProntoEdit, find another remote with more hard buttons.

Strengths:Infinitely programmable. Make rich and powerful scenes.
Weaknesses:Contrast changes as the remote warms up. 4-bit grey scale sometimes cant see all levels.
Review:Allows the average village idiot the ability to control your overly complex home theatre. You need to do some planning and have a decent ability to see the big picture with this remote. If you are not really computer savvy, or have no artistic talent, then you will be complaining that it doesnt work.

Strengths:Ability to learn and customize. Neat screen. Lots of IR codes already installed.
Weaknesses:You need to learn how to use protoedit software to make the best of this product. Protoedit software difficult to learn. Getting used to the touch screen was a challenge.
Review:Once you figure out how to use the Protoedit software, the possiblities are limitless! It was a pain in the neck to customize the main settings through the proto itself. When using the Protoedit software, just right click and customize anyway you want. Forget Phillips main site for help on using the remote, this site is waaaaayyyy better for your source on this remote. Recommended.

Strengths:Powerful infrared, can control a device from a distance
Weaknesses:SUPPORT, SUPPORT, SUPPORT
Buggy pronto software
Price
Battery pack
You pretty much have to purchase the rechargable battery because the product is power hungry
Review:This remote control now sits in a cabinet. Beautiful use of a $300 remote. After purchasing the remote and rechargable battery I began to have issues with the battery not charging completely. After opening the battery pack and moving the battery around it would begin to charge.

I called Phillips and the support person recommended I pull out the battery leads, they "weren't touching". This didn't work. Gave them the information from the receipt.

Called them back, put some paper in between the battery and back of the case. This will keep it in position. Didn't need a receipt, I was already in the system.

This failed and called them back. I didn't have the original receipt after moving and there system conveniently forgot my information. They refused to provide any assistance.

This weekend I spent $2700 on new stereo equipment. How much of it was from Phillips $0.00. The service was really pathetic.

Onkyo now sells the remote and I won't buy it (it's called CHAD). But I'll say this for Onkyo. They provide awesome customer service. I submitted a question to them after they were closed at 11:30 on a friday night, and I got back a response on saturday with correct information that solved my problem. Take note, they are also closed on Saturday.

Learn something from this Phillips. Companies make more money in the long run from loyal customers they they treat with respect and provide good service too.

Strengths:customability
Weaknesses:contrast on the b&w model and user manual is useless
Review:Once you learn how to customize and program this remote it will do most anything you want except for retriving a beer, it even passes the waf test (WIFE ACCEPTANCE FACTOR) just dont tell her how much it costs, more support is requested from phillips on how to customize this remote untill then try prontoedit.com or remote central.com

Strengths:Awsome capability to make this remote do anything except shut my wife up and get me a pop and pop corn during movies. This thing once set up will astound you!!!!
Weaknesses:Very poor information in owners manual on how exactly to use Pront-Edit software, Philips just shows some pictures of what is capable but not how to achieve anything custom or cool. Definitely bookmark www.remotecentral.com for any problems you come across and for some really cool ccf's
Review:If you are considering a universal remote that will grow with your equipment changes then this is definitly the one for you. Dont you hate your wife calling you "How the ^@!! do you turn on the DVD player so I can watch a movie" you know the non-manly kind that you wouldnt watch in a hundred years? Well the solution is simple program a macro, it will turn your tv on to the correct input, your receiver on to the correct setting and your DVD player on then jump to the DVD player panel if you so desire. Then when it is all over just go to your power down macro and all of you equipment turns off. This is definitly worth the time and the ten minute phone calls from my wife when I am out of town.
It is a little tricky to learn to program and you will have to teach your new Pronto most commands because the stock configuration is pretty much useless but if you do live in the 21st century and you do own a computer and have a reasonable understanding of how to use it you will make it.
If you dont want it to eat batteries dont program it to have the LCD and backlight stay on for a million years at a time thats why Philips supplied it with a backlight button.
Overall you couldnt pry this remote from my limp and lifeless body so dont try, just bury me with it.
AWSOME REMOTE JUST WANT COLOR. GUESS THE PRO IS NEXT.
