URC Updates Non-Updateable Software... Again!
Latest features, IR code database and bug fixes for all.

RC News Story
Own a Home Theater Master or Complete Control branded remote and don’t have access to the “live updateable” PC editing software? Well, consumers who did not purchase their Universal Remote Control Inc. remote through an authorized dealer, or who have otherwise been unable to obtain a software version with Live Update capabilities, will be pleased to hear that the company has just updated all of the standalone downloads on their website to the latest version available, including the most recent infrared code database.

This comes on the anniversary of a similar update of the supposedly non-updateable software by the company performed last year; good news in particular for MX-900 and TX-1000 owners who will now have full access to the new variables feature that was released last week.

To download a new version for your remote control you’ll first need to register it on this page (even if you have already done so in the past) using the serial number found inside the battery compartment. Afterwards, uninstall the current editor using “Add/Remove Programs” and then run the saved download to install the newer version.

Enjoy!

I tried this and I got the same 2007 version of the software that I already had...
Forgot to mention that I have a registered MX-3000...
Hmmm... URC has said that they "should" have been updated already, but there was a bit of ambiguity in the response, so I would try again next week.
No update yet. The setup exe is dated 5/22/2007.
Hmmm - still dated 5/22/07 for the MX-700 .exe. Has anybody else had any luck with this?
I've put in another word at URC to check into this... should have an answer back shortly.
It's now July 3, 2008 and a download of the MX-3000 returns a setup.exe date of May 22, 2007.

Is URC lying about its update policy or just incompetent? Or both? If I can't update the software and database (which is missing a ton of new HDTV codes from various high-end LCD manufacturers), the remote is going back...
I still haven't heard back; I'll try contacting them again...
Just for fun I tried the download again today. No luck. It's still same 40.1MB zip file with the May 22, 2007 installer.
