MX-300 from Universal Remote

I found out the hard way after purchasing this remote from Amazon that the policies of Universal Remote will not support my purchase as it did not come from an authorized reseller, just the largest online seller in the world.

I searched their site and could not find this in policy in writing just an "Our remotes need to be programmed by a professional”.
I am a TPF programmer and have been for over 20 years so I am sure I will get as much as I want by programming this remote myself.
But after trying to get an update and help they just send a generic email saying tough shit we don’t help the end user unless you purchased this from one of our resellers

So the moral of this story is do not buy a used MX-300 as the archaic policies of Universal Remote will not support you in fact they have now stopped answering my emails.
One would think in this economy companies would be doing their best to get a good reputation for their products and customer service, not blowing off potential repeat customers.

This is great, I love it when some idiot gets pissed because his "used-bought-online" remote isn't supported from the manufactureer.

You ever notice, more often than not, it's someone who does data entry or some computer based bullsh!t for living....?....or has extensive computer knowledge at the minimum. However they can't figure out how to do a search with google and find this cra*p out before they spend their money...?

Hello Pronto!

exactly how are you a customer of URC? you've bought this remote second-hand, what do URC owe you? ZIP!
please remove the UK suffix, you're giving us a bad name.

I am not looking to get into a pissing match with the three wankers that posted their moronic responses.
I was pointing out that any member looking to buy an MX-300 secondhand (for some of us poorer folks it is the only way) should be aware that UR will not offer them even an update to their software or firmware, and something as important as that should be posted on their site.
I don’t think having to Google a companies hidden policies should be necessary.

But I gotta hand to Smokinghot about the funny "data entry computer based bushit" comment, it makes anything else he may say so.............??.

Let's see, where to start.

First, if you had gone to URC's site and paid any kind of attention, then you would have noticed that the MX-3000 is listed under the PROFESSIONAL side not the CONSUMER side, and someone with common sence would infer that it was meant for a professional to set up, not a consumer. I guess they need to simplify their site for people like you.

Second, why should any manufactureer support any products bought online? Soo much of it is cross-shipped or stolen goods to begin with. Almost no one supports products bought on line, especially used products. That includes Pronto, by the way.

Third, us three wankers do this for a living, and hear the same pissing and moaning from people like you all the time, we just think it's funny. You don't hear us complaining that the IBM mainframes we bought online can't be programmed by us, even though we have extensive remote programming experience, and can't get any technical support from IBM because they are used and were bought online.

Yup...hate to break it to you, but I can't think of any manufacturer (for anything, not just remotes) that will offer you support for a product purchased through an unauthorized channel.

I don't know when you purchased, but the MX-3000 I see on Amazon is sold by "6ave", not Amazon. A huge percentage of the stuff posted on Amazon is from partners, which makes it little different from Ebay or Yahoo Stores.

Thanks Daniel for the first answer that did not contain any stupid comments.

I understand a policy of not offering technical help for a product if it was not purchased from "an authorized distributor" but not offing update to the original product makes no sense. Especially when it states clearly in the Owner manual how to get an update, not the professional installer's manual the owner’s manual.

As I said in my first post "do not buy a used MX-300 as the archaic policies of Universal Remote will not support you" I did not say do not  buy a MX-3000 from Joe the installer just don’t make the MISTAKE I made and buy used from……..whoever

All I wanted from UR was an update; that’s it not trying to put any professionals out of business I just wanted an update to a product I purchased secondhand.

It does not reduce anyone’s market share or impact anyone’s livelihood.

I undoubtedly will run into programming issues I cannot work around and will turn to the professionals on this site for guidance, I am sure that the majority of people that own a Pronto, URC or similar are not professional installers but still experiment with their remote on their own regardless of where or who they purchased them from.

It is a shame that the few people who posted replies can only use immature content try to belittle a new fellow member and not offer their professional help or guidance.

All you wanted was an update, all the other guy wanted was software, the guy before him wanted repair and the other guy just wanted to be taught how to program during a tech support call.

Its an old and frequently posted issue. Its hard not to treat this subject like a joke after hearing it over and over and over again. Can you imagine being a police officer listening to reasons why someone was speeding. Or a teacher hearing reasons why a student is late.

The rules are the rules. Read them, comprehend them and follow them. If you dont, dont assume you deserve a warranty, software, training or an update.
