Hello all,

I have an outlet that doesn't recieve X10 signals. It's the only outlet in the room that doesn't. I already know that it's on the same phase as the rest of the them.

BACKGROUND: The outlet that doesn't work is on a wall in which another outlet was installed and split off from on the other side of the wall. Also, a light and switch were also split off from this outlet.

Could these splits be causing the X10 signals to not get to this outlet? Any ideas would be welcomed.

Thanks

The additional wiring should have no effect, but improper wiring and/or connections might. Does the outlet work? Does flipping the new switch make any difference?

Hi Larry,

I thought you were going to yell at me! ; )

Yes, the new and old outlet both work perfectly. The switch is hooked to a light and that works fine too. The switch is a dimmer switch with one touch control, and a small switch at the bottom. It doesn't seem to matter what position the switch is in for it not to work...

Any other ideas?

Thanks for your help.

I would try unplugging anything on that circuit, even the lamp. Do you have anything plugged into the outlets? How about a power strip? Any thing like this could cause your problem. What are you trying to use in this outlet? Does this device work o.k. is other locations?

Hi Larry,

Why would I yell?

Oh, by the way, I'm assuming you mean an in-wall X-10 receptacle, not a plug-in module. By "doesn't respond", do you mean it won't turn on, or won't turn off? Can you get power out of it at all, by doing anything?

If the outlet is controlled by a switch, make sure it's on, and is NOT controlled by a dimmer. X-10 devices don't "respond" well to being cascaded with other electronic controllers.

Thanks guys for the help,

Nothing else is plugged into that outlet. I'll try unplugging everything in the room next. The device I'm using is a plug in appliance module to control Xmas lights. It works everywhere else except this particular outlet.

Yes, the module will not turn on or off. The outlet works properly, just not with the module. The outlet is not controlled by the switch, the switch merely controls the light.

Any other ideas or questions?

Thanks.

Does the other outlets that are connected to this same wiring work with the appliance module? Have you double checked your wiring? Is it possible that you mixed up the hot and neutral? If you did plugging something in might work but perhaps not an X-10 module.
