Per the article, X-10's claim to fame was it was the Worlds LargestOnline Advertiser. They forgot to include Pain In The Ass.

It's a chapter 11 bankrupcty which is more like a reorganization.

I read somewhere that it was to avoid payment of a court judgement rendered against them for something they stole from someone regarding pop-unders. Don't know if this is factual or not, but it is at least interesting.

Just to note there are two companies here that are independent there is X10Pro who manufactures X10 products for themselves and also manufactures products the are sold by X10.com. I have been told many times by X10Pro, that they are cozy, but completely independent companies. As far as the X10.com pop ups I hope the jury slams them into ground for bringing that plague on America.

I like X10.com's products and company history. I hope they (or someone) will still be around to market their products. I do find both their pop under ads and their barrage of e-mails once you've placed an order to be extremely annoying. They can lose those tactics, and the sooner the better.

If you want to get rid of x10 pop unders and all the other annoying pop ups plus bandwidth hogging ads, backgrounds, etc go here and try Ad-Subtract Pro:

[Link: adsubtract.com]

I've been using this product for a couple of years and, believe me, the web is now a better place. There's a 30 day free trial and then it costs US29.95.

Be aware that legitimate pop ups will be blocked, too but a simple customization by site will take care of getting the pop ups that you need.

Have not seen an x10 ad in 2 years. I have no affiliation with this company other than being an extremely satisfied customer.

I'm using Netscape 7.1 and it's pop-up filter seems to work extremely well. The only pop-ups I've had since installing it some months ago are on the Netscape site, and then they go crazy. So, I don't go to the Netscape site anymore.

If you mean will X-10.com take your $ and send you nothing, not likely. What they will do, as always, is have good prices ON THE SPECIAL SALE items/packs, great flat-rate shipping below their cost, no sales tax.

Unfortunately their selection is limited, their products cheesy, neither newest nor best in any area, and not always a bargain on their regular priced items. They have a hucksterish (surprised?) habit of repackaging the same components various ways under different names, so know what you're doing! They also sell items of different specs, vintages, etc. without making it clear. In their favor, they often send a newer/better/hotter model when they're out of what you ordered, for no extra charge.

All in all I favor smarthome.com for its vast selection, its superior products, its detailed product descriptions, and its available paper catalog. For every one model of lamp module or light dimmer, etc. at x10, they have 5 or more with varying features, none of which you'd even know existed from x-10.com.

Bill E. of homeautomationnet.com is a advertiser on this site, his prices are much better than Smarthome (who do not advertise here).

if it will get all the professional sellers selling x10 stuff off ebay, I'm all for them going to x11. I used to go over there and find some good stuff at garage sale prices but now all I see is the professional re-sellers selling the x10 stuff for higher than I can go to the x10 site and get it (as well as charging ridiculous prices for shipping). the items I get from x10, wired-in outdoor motion detectors, a few wireless motion detectors, & maybe some appliance mods or light mods, I've had absolutely zero problems with. I've even got some of the old realistic x10 lamp modules that still work. I am using a phase coupler/amp and don't have much electrical noise, though.
