I've recently upgraded to Sky+ and so decided to route all my video connections thro' my Denon Receiver using S-video cables (with Composite to S-video convertors for the VCR) instead of RGB Scarts that I had before.

I have noticed, however, that the TV no longer Auto Switches between SuperZoom (4:3) and Widescreen when the transmitted broadcast changes. It used to with Scarts and I heard that the TV should detect it with an S-Video feed as well.

My TV is a Philips 32PW9616, Receiver a Denon AVR3801.

Any help Please ?

Thanks

Hi Simon

I have same problem with my Philips 32PW9615. It is due to the S-Video, which does not carry the switching signal which is on the SCART.

The TV has "Automatic" screen format mode, but in my experience it doesn't really work and I select it manually all the time - damn annoying, but I haven't found a way around.

Anyone has a solution?

A scart connector is not just a compact method of carrying A/V signals (it is definately not the best) it also provides comms for a whole host of domestic kit. The feature you cherished prior to cable change was due to pin 16 going hi, medium or low (voltage) Differing TV requires different levels of trigger. Now trigger is the keyword here for today. Your TV used to be told what to do by your VCR and SKY box when connected by scart. Now your TV has to look at the incoming video frames and decide how much is image and how much is black. This process works occasionally and better on some other sets. But the educated guess your TV makes may never be the right one. I have removed pin 16 from ALL my scarts to irradicate this most evil guessing game.
