I just got a HK AVR220 and had HK AVR35 and the sub channels seem significantly more quite than they did with the old receiver. In addition, and even more so, the sub channel in DTS seems almost non-existent compared to DD... I used the EX-setup and am tweaking from there... Any ideas?

T, with program material, the various channel levels are entirely dependent on the recording engineers' setings. The only thing you can do is set up your channel balancing properly, preferably using a disc like Video Essentials or Avia. Be sure to, if available, set up the DTS levels separately from the DD. Have a sound level meter available?

I have the Sony333ES DTS/DD receiver, and i compared the sounds of the DTS vs. DD encodings on the Avia and the Private Ryan DVDs.

I detected no difference in sub output levels based on dig.method (using a Sunfire)

like larry says, is it specific to one DVD where you can compare DTS vs DD? if so, get another and test again...

goodluck

Tstretch, I have the exact same problem with all DTS material and the link between you and me is that I have an harman/kardon AV-receiver as well.

In a review of my receiver (AVR4000) the reviewer mentioned this fact (DTS sub level is 16dB lower than it should be) and noted it as a general fault on the line. I mentioned this to h/k in UK and they have upgraded the CPU in my unit with the latest firmware etc. but unfortunately it didn't help anything.

I would be very interested in hearing from other h/k owners with this problem - I don't think h/k should just ignore the facts if they have a general fault in their products.

I have made a worksaround where I have increased the sub level with 10dB and lowered all the other channels by 6dB - not elegant but it works.
