I have a samsung HCJ552w tv, with two component inputs, one for the dvd which will handle 480i,480p,720 and another input for 1080i.

I tried a progressive scan dvd player and am having the same problem I am currently having with my xbox with the high def kit.

Problem: If I plug the xbox into the dvd component IN on the tv the xbox menu screen looks fine but on the games/dvd I get a double image (same thing happened with the progressive scan dvd player).

If I plug the Xbox into the 1080i input on the tv the xbox menu is a fuzzy double image but the games/dvds look great.

Also I noticed when I have a game/dvd plugged into the 1080i input that there is a red faint colored stripe that cures slightly up towards the top of the tv.

Someone told me they thought one of the cable may be mixed up and I checked and they aren't, any suggestions as to what is going on??

John

J;
For what it's worth: I had problems with my HDTV/DVD player configuration before I learned of this forum, so being the person I am I called 3 (yes 3) of the "TOP" A/V stores in my area & the 1st response from each was "it's your cables try another set"
I assume there is some problem with cables in general.
Mine were "top of the line".
As doing so made no difference, I again called & was told: 1080i is not supported yet by DVD's. Set the DVD menu to progressive scan or auto progressive scan, do not use the interlaced setting (1080i not being supported yet) I followed the advice & auto progressive helped but did not solve totally - so I
traded my DVD up to the next level & it solved my problem to a great extent, however as (other than the Elite) I have read in tests that Pioneer Dvd players are a "definite must NOT buy" - so I'm going to upgrade to Elite or switch brands .
I will be curious in seeing what Larry F & Brett D & others have to say & maybe I'll learn that I did not have to do what I did! LOL
Doug

The new model is HCL552W, the HCJ552W has been discontinued. Samsung fixed the DTV select problem and it is now selectable off the Video Source Menu, so Universal remote will now work. Additionally, the DVD input now supports 480i&p. However, the 1080i input only supports 1080i. The set still does not support native or upconversion of 720p.

__Single HD/progressive component input. Second component input accepts 480i ONLY.

__The "VGA" input upscales everything to 1080i for some stupid reason and makes it unacceptable as a video display. I played around with my PC and some custom resolutions and sync timings.. pointless. Good idea, bad execution.

Matt, I have the same Samsung model that John has and I will be getting a progressive scan play in a few weeks. I am trying to understand the problem because it looks like I will have do deal with it as well. Are you saying that to hook your player to the TV use the "1080i" input only?

I currently select S-videofor my dvd option from the menu. Will that change? Should I now plug the new player into DVD? Please help me understand. Thanks!

John- Is your problem now fixed? Did that red line go away?
