Greg,

Sorry we didn't hook up at CEDIA...never heard from you on my cell!

Brett,

FYI, if you reread Robert's post, they START selling Crestron at $3,000 (for the STS) PLUS programming. Rest assured that for $3K it won't do all that Robert describes! What Robert describes is what we do also with AMX and Crestron and the entire control system can easily exceed $100K.

Robert,

Your statement of "turn on the shower" struck me. What brand shower valves do you use and would you mind sharing your source? I used one years ago that was a simple contact closure control but they are apparently out of business and have not been able to locate another brand recently. I have a client who really wants one, but I came up with nothing when I posted a request for info on one. Your help would be appreciated. Please email me with info so it won't get missed!!

Thank you in advance,

randy

randy: I didn't think that I'd get so caught up at URC's booth. I was having so much fun showing the show-goers the new MX-700 software.

I forgot to call EVERYONE that I'd said I'd call. It was only the few that stopped by the booth that I had a chance to meet.

Anyway, another day, another time!

Randy,
it's easy to use one or a pair of simple solenoid valves, available at Grainger's and many other plumbing and supply places, available with 24V, 120V, etc. coils.

Robert,
please understand that most of the people here are here because we're do-it-yourselfers. The people who can afford $3K+ systems don't come to chat forums, though their installers may. We have enough difficulty swinging the bucks for a Pronto or even an MX-500. Please be kind.

Yeah for pete's sakes I thought 50K for a sports car
was bad enough, I couldn't imagine a 100 thousand
dollar "home control" system. I guess those of us that
work for a living are more in touch with reality. But
I must say if I made a few mill a year I would become
that hopelessly lazy too :) LOL!

I was on a budget of 5K for my whole system and paying
3K for a fancy computer seems well, ludicrous! To each
his or her own! :)

Larry,

Thanks for the info...hadn't thought to check Grainger's...you get older and have a few occasional brain farts! Anyway, you are correct that this would be an easy integration; not quite as elegant as the old shower valve we used to use...it also had a temp feedback that we ran to an analog input card. But, in the mean time a cut in the pipes, solder in the solenoid valves and have him preset the pressure and temp and we are back in business!

Brett,

It is amazing what people want...when I started my business a "big" job was near $20K...now we have clients that spend $1M (our average job is just under $200K). Some may call it crazy, but, like you said, you might just fall into that trap too! Hey, if you have a few hundred million you got to find some way to spend it cause you can't take it with you!

JCW,

Absolutely! I am living proof and love every minute of it. I used to be in awe walking into 20,000 plus square foot homes, seeing the cars, boats, planes and helicopters...but now it doesn't seem like a fantasy so much anymore. I am not filthy rich like them, but I now spend more on my wife's birthday than I used to make as a pretty well paid engineer at a Fortune top 50 company. I never would have thought it possible, but with a lot of hard work and dedication, hiring good people and taking a few risks it has paid off!

randy

Thanks again!

Could someone please tell me how to get a pronto ccf file to individual hex code, which I am then going to convert to Crestron ir code. I have an ARQ1 that I want to control by th Crestron equivalent of the ccf.

Thank you very much Rich

We got best integrated system over $600K at CEDIA. Sufficed to say that my brain still hurts from that job. If you've got 40+ zones of audio, a shower, 5 fireplaces, 4 home theaters and the like a Pronto's not going to cut it... :)

Shoould I consider the Crestron system if I have a basic system now, but want something that will grow as my system does?

I have a "home Theater" and many x10 devices.

It might be best to wait until CES before deciding. From a programming perspective I prefer AMX. However, the Crestron touch panels are much nicer right now. If AMX announces their new panels are shipping at CES then I'd definately go with them. Their "G4" technology is pretty current versus Crestron's which is a couple years old (16-bit color palette, etc...)
