Has anyone had luck with the STR-K790 receiver (part of the HT-DDW790 Home Theater bundle)? I've tried to apply the methods listed under the other Sony receivers but no joy.

After moving house my remote wouldn't work. I struggled with this for months and finally went to the Sony store. They were willing to sell me a new remote. Ha!

Did a search and found this forum ... went to my STR-DE485 and changed the mode to AV2 and voila ... my remote works again!!!

It doesn't look like there is a way to change the command code on either the remote or the receiver for this model, unless someone has one of these and has found a way to do this and reports it here.

Please help. I just purchased a Sony STR-DG720. I tried the various methods mentioned here to change to AV1, but I do could not figure this out. I have an old Sony Receiver that could be controlled by my Dish Network VIP 622. I assume that when I press the proper key sequence that I will see the display change to notify that AV1 has been selected. I never see this. Also, I tried turning off the receiver with my old Sony remote after I tried each key sequence. I am having no luck. I really want to get a receiver than can be controlled by my Dish Network remote. Please help.

The instructions for the STR-DG710 should work on your 720, since the receiver is similarly set up, and the RM-AAU014 used on the 710 is very similar to the RM-AAU021 used on the 720.

Try them and let me know if it works.

Also, the note about the RM-AAU014 not being able to change the command mode on the remote will probably apply to the RM-AAU021.

Ron - Thanks for the quick response. I tried the STR-GD710 method. The only input button I have is "INPUT MODE" (I also have an input selector nob). With the receiver off, I hold the "INPUT MODE" button and hit the power button. The receiver powers up, but it does not seem to change modes. Also, the RM-AAUA21 still controls the receiver and my older Sony remote will not control the receiver.

Should the receiver indicate the mode has changed to AV1?
Any more suggestions?

The face of the 720 is almost identical to the 710 with a few minor exceptions which wouldn't affect this procedure, so I would have to say the "input mode" button is the one to press.

The receiver might not display the mode change, so if it doesn't then the only way to tell if it changed is to use the remote, which will not operate the receiver if it changed to AV1 but will operate it if it is still in AV2. Also, the fact that your older receiver remote will not operate the 720 further indicates it is still in AV2 command mode.

If you think you have performed the procedure correctly, and the remote continues to operate the receiver, then it's possible that it cannot be changed, but from what I have learned almost every Sony receiver since the inception of the AV1/AV2 command modes (around 2002 if memory serves) have the ability to be changed to AV1, even if their remote does not on a few of the lower end models.

Since the procedure isn't in the manual, and was reported by another member, there is no way for me to verify that it actually works, and we haven't received any postings to confirm or deny it.

No luck. I tried holding all the buttons on the receiver and pressing power. Nothing seems to work.

Sorry about that. Maybe someone who has successfully changed either the STD-DG710 or STR-DG720 receiver to AV1 will post their comments here.

I am trying to get my Sony STR-KS2000 receiver (from the HT-SF2000 HTIB package) to change command modes.

I can't figure out how to get my UR5-8400 Universal Remote to control the volume on the STR-KS2000 receiver - and I think it's because of the command mode setting.

Have you tried all the codes listed for the UR5-8400? They are 001, 011, 055, 187, 053, 112 and 205.

I couldn't find anything in the receiver manual to show that the AV1/AV2 code is present, and the front of the receiver has none of the usual buttons used when changing command modes.

You could try turning it off, then press and hold the power button and press each of the few buttons visible on the face of the receiver and see if anything happens, which I doubt.

If you have any other programmable remotes you could try making one of them work the volume on the receiver.

Thanks very much for the quick reply. I did try all of those codes, nothing worked for me. I also tried them all on every input (Aux, DVD, VCR, TV, CBL).

I tried the powering off and powering back on with each button held -- and it didn't seem to do anything. There was no message listed on the display.

Also - I don't have any other remotes.

If it comes down to buying a new universal remote -- any recommendations on one that would be guaranteed to work with the Sony device, and a Time Warner DVR / Cable Box?

It's hard to me to imagine I'm the only STR-KS2000 user that wants to use a separate remote to control volume. :(

I don't know your location, but assuming there is a Walmart or similar store in your area, try any remote you like since it can easily be returned.

If you need this much remote, the Sony RM-VL600 is a good one. Walmart used to carry the OneForAll remotes, and I recommend them, but if you can't find them then the Sony is the next good bet, and if they have a cheaper non-learning Sony you could try that also.

From what I've learned so far, none of the RM-AAU series remotes have the capability to change command modes on the remote, and if you can't change it on the receiver then it may be set at AV2, which is a bummer.

Do you have any other equipment (VCR, etc) that has a code listed in the UR5-8400 manual? If so, you could see if the UR5-8400 will control it, which would tell us a little more about this problem.

I talked to Sony's help desk, and they tell me that there is no way to switch Command Modes with this particular set-top box. I'm not 100% convinced, since that seems to be their scripted response when posed the question.

The UR5-8400 controls my TV with no problem. The only other device I have is an AppleTV. The UR5-8400 is the remote that comes with all Cable Boxes and DVRs where I live (New York City). I could bring my remote to a friends apartment to test it working with other devices, just tell me what I should do to troubleshoot.
