The Spectrum By-Back (reverse) Auction has caused a lot of television station change in ownership.  The most interesting one to watch so far is the three-way between Meredith - Media General - and - Nexstar.  Media General owns Buffalo's WIVB-4 and WNLO-23.  Any takeover involving these three companies will not affect the ownership of these two stations directly, but could help the syndication of Media General's  (and Fox Television Station Group) Hollywood Today Live show (60 minutes).

•  The Nexstar-Media General deal follows the termination of a competing merger proposal between Meredith Corp. and Media General.
•  The deal also entitles Media General shareholders to any proceeds from the sale of Media General's spectrum during the FCC's incentive auction this spring.
•  The new company will own WNLO-23 and WIVB-4 Buffalo, the only two stations in Buffalo that do not have any sub-channels, for now.

Just to illustrate what could happen in some U.S. markets as a consequence of limited television spectrum after the repacking, here is the situation in San Diego.

An unlikely delay tactic is possible for the upcoming reverse auction:

Do you have concerns over the 39 month time limit on repacking?

Organizations interested in partaking of the next Federal Communications Commission (FCC) auction will only have 32 hours to choose whether to participate or not. At 10 AM EST on March 28, firms may begin to commit to the auction, with the window closing at 6 PM EST on March 29. Any company that is late in declaring its participation will not be allowed to participate.

2016 FCC Reverse Auction Deadline Application is Today!  Hurray!

[Link: uk.reuters.com]

Though the participants will remain antonymous until the auction has completed,  WBNF-CA 15 is expected to sell.  Don't be surprised if WBBZ-TV-67 also joins and maybe WNED-DT-17.

Means, sooner or later we're all going to have to buy new tuners or set-top box adapters if we still want to enjoy over the air.

Plus lose some stations, maybe get others instead.
