I currently have a directivo with a diplexer attached to the RF output; the signal is then split to both my HDTV and to a second tv in the kitchen; so happens that my dtivo is now being replaced so I am without it for a couple of weeks; I tried connecting the diplexer to the incoming satellite cable, but I get no signal on the kitchen tv! what do I need to get a satellite signal? my HDTV has no RF output so I have no idea what to do. thx

I'm surprised you're getting anything on either TV. With the TiVo gone, you have no tuning capability as far as satellite is concerned. That would be like connecting an antenna to an amplifier and expecting to hear radio. The DirecTiVo also supplies power to the dish's LNB, so the head-end unit is not even being powered at all.

Sorry Larry; I must have left out the fact that what I am really wondering is how to get a feed to my kitchen tv---other than via the RF output on the dtivo; with it gone for awhile, I am not using that output of course; but why won't a similar connection from the satellite output not provide a feed to my kitchen tv just like the output from the dtivo; is there a way to get non-dtivo feed to my kitchen tv? thx

Is there a satellite tuner in the kitchen?

You must have a satellite receiver, which the DirecTiVi contains, to get satellite reception.

Lets say you replaced your dtivo with a regular receiver, and hooked it up the same way. If your not getting a signal, it might be that you haven't pressed the sat/tv button. A button that isn't on the dtivo, and I just can't imagine him thinking he'll get a signal from dish to tv.

He could use a splitter after the IRD but he hasn't stated that he even has another sat ird. Come to think of it I have never heard of a diplexer being used this way either? Usually it is to combine sat and cable to an IRD. On the same hand he is not complaining about loss of signal in the other room. My crystal ball is shot tonight? Possibly an RCA RPTV with a built in DTC-100?

You must be receiving Local TV signal. Just come off of the switch/combiner with an inexpensive 2 way splitter. One to the HD, and the other to the kitchen.
