I keep reading about people being forced to flip a switch on their HDTV decoder in order to switch from 1080i to 480p. That's rediculous, of course. How did any manufacturer ever get the idea that TV's would only offer ONE of the 18 available HDTV resolutions?

Anyway... what's the best HDTV box if I want to connect the box to my TV using component inputs, then sit back on my couch, be able to view all the HDTV modes, and switch aspect ratios as necessary?

It seems like this is a real no-brainer, but somehow, 90% of the manufacturers seem to have dropped at least ONE of these balls.

Thanks,
Dale

Some TV's will not let you change the aspect when in HD
The rca dtc-100 is the best out there.
Go to radio shack and see if you can buy their demo unit as suggested in another thread.

As I understand it, the DTC-100 needs some kind of adapter to work with industry-standard component inputs. What's the scoop on this, how much does this adapter cost, and where can I get it?

Also, I'd be delighted if you could direct me to the other thread you're referring to. I didn't see that one.

Thanks so much!
Dale

A scaler/doubler/quad will give you the output you need at that point use a component to 15 pin cable that you can buy at any Fry's electronics , Pacific Radio , Etc Etc

Unfortunately, a scaler isn't in my budget right now. Got any hanging around the house, propping doors open?

Just an FYI.

With the DTC-100 now defunct, there is news of a DTC-200 to be available this fall. No detailed info is available at this time.

I will keep everyone updated on this unit, and give details when they are available.

You might have to take into consideration that RCA now makes DISH network receivers.

Uh... how does that consideration affect things?

Sorry Darnitol, I was commenting on the future of RCA, and what system the DTC-200 might be working on. You should try to find a bargain in whats left of the stock of DTC-100's. If you go to Radio Shack, for them to sell you the demo, it has to have a access card. Which they rarely do, so bring one of your own. Let them call it in, it does nothing to the card, and you get your receiver.

Actually, I'm only interested in the OTA tuner. I don't have DISH right now. I'm sort of on the fence about signing up.

The RCA DTC-100 is a Directv receiver, and works with ota signals. Good luck, in whatever you finally choose.

Dale the DTC-100 uses a VGA output. Some TV's like my Pioneer have both component and VGA so not a big deal. If you do not have VGA input on your tv you need whats called a transcoder. It takes the VGA and outputs component. The less expensive ones are around $99. Audio authority,RCA, and Key Digital to name a few make them. You might want to try Ebay. The DTC-100 with a transcoder will still be your best bet. It handles OTA well and would be cheaper then the other brands plus it has discretes which the other brands don't have.

So... Since I'm only going to be using the DTC-100 for OTA, do I still need an access card for the unit to work?

Thanks,
Dale

Not that I'm aware of Dale.

My understanding is, you only need it if you plan to use the satellite side of the receiver.
