I was wondering if there is a remote that i can dim my lights in the room... i know i would need to put some type of reciever on the outlet then plug the lamps into the reciever... just wondering if there is a remote that can control my tv/dvd/stereo and also dim my lights in that room. if there is such a remote or a couple of them which one/ones would you recommend?

what you would need is some X10 stuff (try the X10 forum on this site), then you will need an IR543 or IR543AH depending on how many lights you want to control. With that setup any universal remote that can learn can control it. The best would be HTM MX-500, 700, 800 Philips Pronto or Pronto Pro Marantz RC 5000,5000i,5200,9200 Harmony
these are also the best remotes for devices. The ir->X10 device does not come with a remote. So to be able to control it you need either a remote that contains the codes or one that is PC programmable

With your relatively modest system to control, there are quite a few others as well that would work for you. Depends on how much you want to spend. the above options are all 100.00+ There are others that will work just as well for much less. especially in the 20-70 range.
