I'm looking at both of these remotes. Is one that much better than the other or are they both the same. I've read the review for the Sl-9000, can't seem to find one for the RCA. All I can gather about the RCA is that it has a small amout of memory.

Thanks

Try the user reviews in the "Features" section. Also, try the One-For-All forum, the 810 is a jp1 remote like the Radio Shack and OFA models. Another source is Rob's site: www.hifi-remote.com

These 2 remotes are quite different in some ways.

The main drawback of the SL9000 is the fact that they combined the menu arrows and transport keys onto the same set of buttons. So if you have a device that needs both, like most VCRs, DVD players, etc, you're screwed. For these devices they put the transport keys on some randomly labelled buttons at the bottom of the remote.

Call me picky, but while I don't find using obscure buttons for obscure functions, I expect the standard set of buttons to be covered (ie, arrows, transport, numbers, etc)

But, the SL9000 has an endless supply of memory, so you'll be able to learn from as many remotes as you like.

The RCU810 is very limited without JP1, but with JP1 it's a very good remote.

Thanks for the tips! I'm leaning towards the RCU810, hard to find them on EBAY for less than $20.00 though.

I just looked and you're right, there's only a couple of them on sale right now. Recently there have been tons of them with "Buy It Now" prices under $20, so it might be worth waiting. Depends how urgent your needs are.
