Hi Guys

I have spent the last 3 hours trying to get my new Philips pronto SBC RU 960 working with my Musical Fidelity A 5 system. I'm about to nuts. I don't understand wy i't won't work.

The problem as I see it is, that my original remote sends out different IR codes every time I press it. I think it has about 5-10 different signals for every action. Somehow that works fine with the original remote but my pronto will only learn one of them and that's a problem. I got to a point where I could switch between CD & HT direct and also between CD & Phono, but NOT between Phono & HT Direct.

I have the same sort of problem with the functions of the CD player. The fast forward function is the only fully functional button. The skip track button will only allow me to switch from track 1 to track 2 and then i't won't skip more tracks.

I'm hoping that some kind Musical fidelity owner ( Or maybe sim audio owner as I think they use some of the same codes) will be so kind as to help me with this problem.

Sincerely

Are you sure it really sends out different codes? It sounds like the remote didn't learn them correctly. I would guess that it just appears like it sends out different codes with each press because possibly you held the button for a different duration each time you tried to learn it.

Hello. Thank you for your reply.

Im very sure! Every time i press learn I get a different result. Like i wrote, there are about 5-10 different codes pr key

And I can alsp get it to react to some of the learnt codes but only some of the functions work. And for example i can switch between CD & Phono but not between CD & HT direct. It is very annoying.

I hope someone can help

Hi jefezz

You're absolutely right: The MF remote *does* send a new code every time you push a button. I guess that is supposed to be some sort of protection against sitting on the remote and constantly sending the same command (I can't think of any other good reason...)

My solution:

1.) Record every possible code combination for every button using the pronto as scanning device on your pc. You may want to create a text document for every button and copy-paste the code strings in appearing order.

2.) You'll notice about 5 variations of the code: look at the length and the last digits of the code strings.

3.) Create your personal pronto GUI and copy-paste it so that you have as many optically identical versions as there are code string variations.

...see where this is going...?

4.) Provide the buttons on your fist GUI with the first code string you recorded. Then the same buttons on your second GUI with the second code string (and so on and so on...). I suggest you make one GUI with short code strings, then one with longer ones (and so on...)

5.) Use the "jump" function (sorry, not sure how it's called in english - german software on my device) to switch automatically from one GUI to the next after pushing a button. For example: I push the "stop" button on GUI 1 and my pronto switches automatically to GUI 2. Looks the same to me but this "stop" button uses another code string.

Sounds like quite some work - and is indeed. You may want to try using only three code string variations to save time. Works fine for me...

Greetz from Switzerland!
btw.: Are you happy with your A5 CD? My one seems to be what we call a "monday model" :-(

Hi,
I am having the exact same problem!
I found that if you send a Vol - code before another code it works, (sort of except for HT Direct).

Would you be able to send me the hex codes that you learnt, as I only have the one variation for each command.

I have a feeling that you only need 2 variations, i.e you send out the first variation first, then the next time you send the same command, you use the second variation.

The problem you folks are seeing is likely a "Toggle Bit" problem. There's plenty of info on how to attempt to solve this problem. You may want to start with the Classic Pronto FAQ for an explanation and possible things you can do to try and get this to work.
