Thinking of upgrading to the new pronto to add x-10 control of my home theater room lighting & some other x-10 devices - need some advice on the RF functions of the pronto NG 3000:
Can someone tell me how the RF feature works on the new Pronto3000 - and what exactly the RF extender does and where it needs to be placed? -- I have heard some references to "switching to RF function is easy" - Can you have a mix of IR/RF functions -(for instance the home theater components on IR and X-10 functions for RF), or does this unit have to work all on IR or all on RF?
One other thing I saw in a thread was that the new Pronto software limited configuration to only one (1) page per device - can anyone tell me if this is true?
Lastly - how good/bad are the set of four hard buttons above the main cluster to find without looking?

I am not sure about the RF extender hopefully someone else will chime in on that one. RF is set per device so you couldn't have RF and IR on the same device but there is nothing that says you couldn't have 2 hidden devices (one with RF commands, one with IR commands) with a third device which has buttons that link to functions on the either the RF or IR device. So easy answe is yes you can have a mix or IR and RF devices.
The NG software is NOT limited to one page per device.

don't know about the 3000 but I do know about the ProntoPro
The RF extender (or base) receives an RF command from the remote and then sends an equivalent IR command.
To send RF the device where the actual code is placed (learnt, UDB....) must be set to RF. So you could have a button with links (aliases) to RF buttons and IR buttons and then send some codes in RF and others in IR.
In Europe The Pro (European) uses the same RF frequency as X10, so the Pronto can talk directly to the X10 device. In NA they use different frequency. If you do a search in the Pronto forum, you will get some more info on the subject.

The RF extender is the same one used with the TSU6000, the RFX6000. It may work with certain RF equipment but it will give you the ability to operate IR equipment out of the line of sight of the remote. The RF signal sent by the remote is converted to IR by the extender and distributed to the various devices. Mike www.SurfRemoteControl.com
