I'm in the market to purchase a remote. All of my components use IR except the DishNetwork PVR. This unit uses RF.

From the specs of the 3000 I found that it's RF capable, but it sounds like it can only send EF to a Phillips extender. Is this correct?

Is the 3000 that much better than the 2000?

I dont have a 2000 or a 3000 yet for that matter but I will tell you why i am upgrading from my 1000 to a 3000.

1. Bigger Screen
2. Hard directional buttons
3. More shades of gray

I am a heavy Tivo user so a lot of time is spent in the guide and now playing lists so the 4 way direction pad is a big plus for me.

The bigger better screen is another strong plus. I was always wishing I could make my buttons a little bigger so they would be easier to hit with my big fingers. The only way to do this on my 1000 would be to add more panels and too many panels makes a device too confusing so I am looking forward to the extra screen space.

The dish network PVR is both IR and RF. You don't need to use an RF remote to control the PVR unless you want to control it from another room. Either Pronto will control the PVR with IR signals.

The 3000 is the newer model and has a few extra features mot found on the 2000....
You can use the whole screen for designing your remote layout.
It has a lot more hard buttons on it.
The display is a little brighter and a shade bluer.
The touch screen in my opinion is more sensitive.
It uses 16 shades of grey for the display compared to 4 for the 2000.
It is a little lighter.
A lot of the people on this forum will argue with me on this, but I prefer the 3000 software over the 2000. If a person started with the 3000 software and had to switch over to the 2000 software, I bet they would be compaining about a lot more than they are now. It does have a couple of minor bugs that will be fixed over time.

I'ver use a 2000 for a couple of years, but it is going into retirement.

jrichie: you are right about the RF

I also agree with Archer, that if you get a remote now, the best bet is the 3000 over the 2000. Since the 3000 and 2000 are two different platforms, chances are that the 3000 might have functional updates, but that the 2000 will not.
