Yet another question for the experts here as I explore my new remote.
I believe the 3000 is only (?) pronto currently using the light sensor. Anyways, there are 3 adjusments to be made for timing out the display:
1) LCD timeout 2) Backlight timeout 3) Light Level
Well #1 & #2 are self-explanatory, but I've having trouble with #3. I can see the light reader picking up room light indicated by the gray bar moving back and forth on the display area. Supposedly, if I set the <> indicator below the gray bar threshold, the LCD will backlight when in use. I assume this means if you set the <> at the minimum point, the LCD will stay lit regardless of the setting you've set in option #2 above. I don't want this to happen, so I set the <> at the highest point (far right) so only the strongest amount of light will cause the LCD to light up.
It does no good. The backlight stays on for the entire time I have the LCD timeout set for.
Can someone point me in the right direction?

I don't have a 3000, but I know that in the original book (for the 1000) they had inverted what makes it on/off. Try putting the <> at the other end

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried the <> at both ends with no luck. It also doesn't seem to "save" my cursor setting sometimes. ????
I'm very frustrated with it at this point.....

Hmmmmm, the problem seem to have resolved itself...
Light sensor seems to work. LCD automatically lights up in low light levels. Sucks batteries like a mother, though.

I just got my 3000 and it has the same problem. Light sensor not responding properly. Do you know what you might have done? Possibly a reset?

The way my light sensor works is if I have it set to the farthest left setting, the back light does not come on when I activate a button if the remote is in bright light, move the remote to low light and the back light comes. Moving back into bright light does not turn the light off until the screen times out. If set to farthest right setting, then the backlight comes on whenever I activate a button, no matter how bright of light I have the remote in.

I have mine set all the way to the left. Turned the remote on underneath a desk lamp and the backlight still lights up. My old 2000 didn't have this feature so it doesn't bother me much. But it does bother me cause it doesn't work and it'll definitely be a battery saver.

Thanks to Archer's description I was able to figure out that my light sensor is working. BUT, it reacts differently to different light. Holding it right under my table lamp did nothing. So I walked to a window. In outside light it reacted, I could see the grey bar and the back light turned off. Next I tried an incandesent light in another room. That worked too. In my living room where I mainly use my remote, I have power saving flourescent bulbs. Apparently the light sensor is not very sensitive to these. Holding the remote right up to the bulb barely budges the grey bar!

Dear Philips, there's not much point in having a backlight "adjustment" if the knob has to be turned all the way to the left at all times!
Like 'nyjklein', I can get the light to turn off only if I'm standing in a window or right under an incandesant. Normal light coming thru that window hitting my chair isn't enough, even at the lowest setting.
Also, I don't understand how the time-outs are supposed to work. I have the backlight timer set at 4, with the LCD timer set at 10. The backlight seems to always stay on for the whole 10 seconds.
Hmmm...having played with it a little more, it looks like the backlight time controls how long the light stays on AFTER (if) the unit enters bright light. Barry

LCD time=10 BL time=4
if you have the BL to turn on automatically, then the BL will stay on for 10 seconds (you are telling it to have the light on for the same time)
if you use the BL button or you move into the light, then the BL time comes into effect and stays on for 4 sec.
just logical :-)

Anthony-
How do you set the 3000 BL to NOT turn on automatically? I couldn't find that setting.

don't have a 3000, but in the setup menu there should be a setting that you can change.
