I recently found my 'old' Pronto TSU2000/01 remote. I moved a few years back. In the process of moving I changed cable companies and got new home theater equipment. So I put the tsu 2000 on the back burner. Since its been a few years, I thought I'd ask here what the current Sys and App versions. My unit says
Sys V4.8 [06/19/2001 09:54]
App V5.3 [06/19/2001 09:56]
CCF [08/13/2002 07:17]
If I understand that last entry, the last time I programmed it was late 2002. LOL
If a newer version of Sys/App is available, where can I get it. I looked on the http://www.pronto.philips.com site but could not figure out which was my model. I don't know if philips renamed it or just does not support it anymore.

Your firmware is current, list is in the FAQ. You can get the software here: [Link: remotecentral.com], v4.0.5, it handles all versions of Prontos.

Thanks Jim.

That was exactly what I needed. I knew ProntoEdit came with the TSU2000 and was used to program the menus on it, but since I had only used a thirdy party program called Tonto to connect with my TSU2000, I didn't know it also updated the firmware. I thought firmware updates were handled by a separate program. Last night after finding my cable and the current version of Tonto, I installed both ProntoEdit and Tonto. I found out they both have a firmware update feature.

Again Thanks Jim,

JP

I use Tonto as well. If your happy with it, you don't even need PE loaded on your computer, with one exception. Tonto doesn't have an emulator. But, if you go under "files", "prefrences" and then the "helpers" tab, you can link to the emulator program(s) in PE or TSS for whichever remote(s) you want. You can also link to several other things in this area of Tonto.

I saw a reference to Touch Screen Setup on one of the Tonto Project website. I don't think I ever used it. Does TSS use the same emulator as ProntoEdit?

I did install ProntoEdit. I was thinking about comparing it with Tonto. They look very similar. Other than one being windows based and one Java based, it hard to see much functional difference.

Sorry, but since I am a nosey guy, I already tried this. When I get a new version of program like Tonto, I look at all the menus and preferences. I did find a slot for a TSU2000 emulator and saw the ProntoEmulator.exe in the PE folders. I browsed to it and tried it. It seemed to work. I wasn't sure if I could mix and match like that. Thanks for your suggestion. Now I know for sure Tonto and the emulator should get along together.

Well I just loaded, edited, saved, exited, reloaded, both PE and Tonto half a dozen times. In other words, normal tasks, but PE keeps locking up. Looks like I'll have to stick with Tonto!!

TSS is for Marantz versions of the Pronto and includes emulators for the 5000, 5000i, 5200, and 9200 remotes. Tonto handles Marantz, Yamaha and Onkyo versions of the remote as well. There are quite a few differences between PE and Tonto, but they can be rather subtle to the casual user. Some of the biggest things are the ability to have multiple ccfs open at the same time in Tonto, Tonto's icon library which enables global replacement, the undead function which cures a reboot loop, and of course improved communications.

Looks like Tonto also has a Merge feature that PE doesn't. I am trying to locate CCF's for my devices so I don't have to learn them. Once I have created a CCF for each device, it will be handy to be able to Merge them.

So far its 50-50. I found a CCF for my Motorola DCT-2244 cable box from Comcast and my Toshiba CF27G50 TV. I can't find one for my RCA DRC6200N combo DVD/VCR unit. Just beyond my reach is a CCF for a Sony DAV-S500 Home Theater unit (DVD, Amp, Radio, Video 1, Video 2, Dolby 5.1 Speakers).

I found a PCF for it by Richard Strudwick, but it only seems to have a limited amount of buttons. Also I haven't been able to figure out how to go backwards from a ProntoEdit NG PCF file to a ProntoEdit CCF file, if its even possible. I was able to separate the the bitmaps and the XML elements but not able to extract the IR codes for the Sony DAV-S500. The XML file is easy to read since its only a text file. Unless someone knows how to automatically convert the XML file, looks like this is one of those situations where trying to convert the file will take longer than just 'learning' the buttons by hand.
