Hi guys:

First, my apologies for cross posting, I placed the same question in a sony forum becasue I honestly didn't know where to ask...

Does anyone know where I can find a comprehensive list of sony SIRCS 12 bit device ID's?

I have:

1 TV
2 VTR1
4 VTR2
6 laserdisk
7 VTR2
11 VTR3
12 Surround Sound Processor
16 Cassette Deck and Tuner
17 CD Player
18 Equalizer

Not a complete list, or maybe it is...

I am using makehex to generate the hex to create a ccf file (that part is working fine). I need to program a device I have that uses the 12 bit sircs protocol. I can set it's device id, but I must choose the ID to use. I want to program it so I will have the least chance of interference with other devices. An obvious choice is a device ID not in the list above (i.e. 8) but I'm hoping someone knows a list of common devices that uses these device ID's.

Thanks,
Scott

Your answer is on this web page:
[Link: hifi-remote.com]

Note the list of numbers under the label "Sony12". Each of those links to a page telling what that number is used for.

That list (like your list) does not include number 8.

I did an automated search of my massive library of downloaded CCF files. I have only one that uses that number 8. It is this CCF file
[Link: remotecentral.com]

in there, number 8 is identified as the code for "VTR1 Old". I don't know whether the author of that CCF was accurate about that identification.

By way of contrast, I did a similar search and found many CCF files in which number 4 was identified as "VTR2 Old".

Great, thanks John, Got just what I needed there. I can choose one that won't interfere now.

Thanks again,
Scott

When I did a similar search for 9, everything I found (which was quite a lot) was a misinterpretation of a part of a 20 bit Sony signal for a DVD as if it were a 12 bit signal for device number 9.

I haven't had time to do a careful examination of the problem to see whether that is a flaw just in my decode system or whether there is a fundamental reason why it is easy to imagine a device 9 signal when seeing a 20-bit DVD signal (in which case Sony may have intentionally skipped 9 for that reason and you might also want to skip it).

I wondered why the skips. I apparantly have:

5,8,9,10,20-23,25-27 to choose from.

5 looks attractive, maybe 26...

I didn not look there specifically, but I did see that document somewhere else and it is what my original list posted above was based on, thanks.

also
try yahoo groups visiontouch group there are a
number of documents that have a list of commands.

I don't need the commands, you see I'm creating the commands myself. I'm actually programming a microprocessor that's built to take SIRCS 12 bit commands. I send it a command (i.e. 5), it in turn sends out a RS232 command based on a lookup table.

What I need is the list of common device ID's in use by Sony (or anyone else). That way I will program my device to be something different. Then I'll run a lesser chance of having an interfering device when mine is in use.

I see the cav user guide doc has a bunch of devices listed. I'm perusing it to see which are 12 bit devices.

Thanks for the pointers.

Cheers,
Scott

The CAV user guide was a real pain in the Ass to write took me ages to decode those codes form just sending the controller hex commands.
i will look during the weekend as i do have the Sony Sircs Spec and there list of ID's and commands. Take a look at the CXD-2088Q devices it is an I2C chip that does all the hard work for you.
I have uploaded the datasheets to here, it decodes sony and RC5,6

Got it. Putting on my binary to decimal hat so I can read the devices .

If you download my Sony CD supercharger, there's a writeup about the Control AI protocol and checksums in the README.TXT. Another good source of data is www.nirvis.com as they used to sell a product call SLink-E their device files have a wealth of information.
