I purchased the Neo 2 days ago and I am having some serious trouble teaching this "thing". I also own the original Pronto, so I am pretty familiar with these types of toys. Upon bringing it home I started with the layout of how I wanted my screens to be. About 10 hours later, :) I began entering (teaching) the codes. Everything was going fine with my TV, DVD, Sat. The problem arose when I started programming my receiver. I have a Sony 555 ES. When Neo learns the codes it says "OK" on the screen, like it "took" the code. But when I try to use the Neo with the receiver it doesn't operate it. Trust me it fails regularly, but when it says OK, I move on to the next button. After completing each page I try it out and it does not operate the receiver. I don't get it.

Any Ideas?

If the neo took the code it will be able to transmit, some codes take longer button presses on the old remote to get the whole code into the neo.

Update:

I spoke to Philips and they told me my unit was defective and to return it. I returned home with my second unit and the same thing occurs. I did some investigating and found that the original IR hex string is longer than the hex that the Neo is picking up. I tried varying the duration of time I hold down each button while programming but still no difference in hex string. It is almost like the Neo is unable to produce such a long string of hex.

Please, anyone with a Sony receiver that came with the Remote Commander respond with some advice. re: 333ES ; 555ES ; 777ES ; 9000ES

I have the 555 ES one.

I have the 555 ES reciever, but, I just bought the prontoNEO tonight, so I haven't hit this barrier yet and really know zero about the unit.

But today, while visiting a buddy with the original pronto, and an ever so cool HT with mega macros.... we discussed how he had trouble programming his DTR-935 (????- it's one of the top "non" ES sony receiver).

It may shed some light on your situation...

He said that he had a LOT of trouble programming his pronto to learn his Sony remote's commands until he did 2 things:

1) turn on "2-way remote" on your receiver
2) when programming the Neo make sure you do this within sight of the receiver (he did it sitting on the floor of his living room in front of the Sony unit)- so that outgoing signals from the Receiver can be sensed by the 'learning' unit.

I have no idea if this will work for you... but it was something i will try for me, too.

good luck

I am able to control most of my 555ES controls. I cannot control subwoofer level. Everything else I have pieced together from other users with Sony receivers. It seems as though most Sony receivers use the same ir code. My problem is my 555 shipped with that big old touch screen remote. My NEO seems to have trouble learning from other touch screen remotes. ie. Pronto......... It reads on the screen "OK" during the learning process, but won't control the device. All other devices work fine...tv, sat, etc.

I am about ready to buy a new receiver.....Onkyo maybe :)
