I feel I have been betrayed by URC.
For several years I have been fighting Leukemia and 8 months ago had a transplant. So finally I recently felt good enough to come back to upgrading my MX-700 and get told that I can not do it. Only the dealer or Sales Representative can do this. That is great for the dealers bottom line but that is not the original agreement that I had with URC when they took my money. I sure will have to be desparate to buy any of their products again since they do not care about their customers.
The more I think about this the madder I get. This means that if I buy any of their products I have to find a reseller. This essentially eliminates any competition for pricing.

I just found the "big" thread where this should have gone (I have been out of touch).
After reading the ones that think they are going to make money from us, the "Authorized dealers", my opinion is that it is a bunch of bs.
No big, respectable electronic company that I am familiar with requires such a stupid arrangement. Do you have to go to an "Authorized dealer" to upgrade your Canon printer?
My prediction is that in the end URC will change their policy because of a significant and maybe mortal drop in sales.

See the sticky "Getting Software For Your Remote" thread at the top of this forum. Go to that site and enter the serial number. Then you can download the software. It's not the updatable version, but it's only a few updates behind (they periodically update the non-updatable software). It will work fine for you to upload and modify your file.
There's nothing that says that consumers cannot edit their configurations. The only restriction is that URC does not provide an open download to the updatable software any more. Your dealer can give you the updatable software. And you, the consumer can download the non-updatable but still fully functional software yourself without even contacting your dealer.
So go to that thread, and complete the registration process, and you've got software.
The complaining/whining/arguing about the policy is also no longer allowed.
