Ok I give up. I have been through the advanced material many times, I
understand how to write XML code.... but for the life of me, I can not find
my device menus.
Let's say I have a Watch Tivo Tv activity, I want to change the menu options
for my tivo. If I look under devices - pvr - modify XML I don't see any
menu items listed just device languages. If I look under activities - Watch
Tivo - modify XML I still don't see menu items just a simple setup, and my
channels.

Could you please tell me how I get to a XML code that looks like the
examples I see at

Thank you!

I was at a lost when I started as well, so don't feel bad.

The first thing I did was to use the change button option to change one button (zap) on each menu for one of my activities. (If you are not clear on how to do that, I can explain in another post).

NOTE: When using the change button options I advise you to make sure you rename them something unique so you do not get confused what change button is what!.

Adding functions to the buttons is fairly simple. The most complex thing so far is playing with menus.

When Adding and Modifying menus I found it easiset to insert my code into the XML of the change button created for each menu (as I stated above I use the zap button change on all my menus). Just insert your new code after the last command, but before the last

I think I have done fairly well considering. With some playing around and help from Customer Service (which I find very responsive), I was able to learn a few things. I have added menus and menu items and am fairly pleased with what I have managed to make the remote do.

I did find one thing to be annoying. You cannot change what the default functions on the menus do. So while I was able to rename that the Menu option on the play menu, I cannot stop it from sending the menu command. I can only modify it to do some more (in this case change to the navigate menu).

Just a note to everyone reading:
When emailing Customer Service to ask for help, I always ask them to update the advanced pages when getting XML examples (and so far they have!). That way we can all learn these things.

Thank you for your reply!

Here is what is happening... I have a sony t-60 PVR/SAT. some of the items that are in my menus have no reason to be there (example - TVweb is in my menus, when tvweb isn't even an option on the T-60) Other things that should be at the top of the menu I have to scroll down to find. In other words I want to make all of the menus custom.

So if I write the menu XML code and drop it in after the XML I set up for my zap button it will overwrite how the menus are layed out by default?

Sorry for the stupid questions. Just trying to understand.

What menus are you looking at? Are you talking about activities? If you can tell me where that TVweb is showing up I might have some better answers.

Each activity has its own set of menus. For example my Watch ReplayTV has 5 (6 if you count the Favorite Shows menu)...
1) Control Menu - the one that has Change Activity on it
2) Play Menu
3) Naviagate Menu
4) Surf Favorites
5) Surf All

While my Listen to CD activity has only 2

1) Control
2) Play

You can use the menu cancel (the button on the side, below the wheel) to step thru all the menus for any activity. I did this to confirm what I was doing with the change button stuff. When you use change button there is a list of the menus you can change. That's where I found that the Favorite Shows menu (the one downloaded with each update), wasn't listed and I started trying to find the menu name. (I sent an email from Customer Service on this and while they sent a quick reply I haven't had the time to work on my menus recently). But back to your post...

You can change some of the ordering on menus, but not a whole lot. There are relative positioning commands (first, last), but I haven't tried them, and am not sure how well they work. When I created new menus I tried to place the new menuitems in the order I wanted, and that seems to be the order they appear. When I have added to menus such as the play menu I have just added to the end.

What I found out by trial and error and was later confirmed by Customer Service, was that you can rename defualt menuitems but not change their bindings (what the option does), so that is a real pain.

I think the real key to everything was changing menus with button presses. I have the zap button remapped to bring up one of the menus on my ReplayTV. I added a binding to make it change to the navigate menu. When the remote is in Navigate, the buttons are all pre mapped to help move up and down (left and right) on my menu. I just added a few new menu items, such as Page up and Page Down, to make it more like the original remote.

I'll try to help any way I can. Just don't get discouraged. With a little patients you should be impressed with the results.
