Amazon, which is taking pre-orders for it, has the estimated release date as July 5th.

July 5th is a Thursday... June 5th is a Tuesday, as is normal for DVD releases. :-)

If it does well at the Oscars, maybe we'll see it before then...

That is just the name of the site.
The disk is a non-region DVD with 5.1 DD mix. Eng. titles and Eng Dub

I've read that CTHD has been released in R3, and there is a bootleg R0 version that is lacking the commentary tracks and is a non-anamorphic transfer. Are you sure you have a legit copy, Ric?

I have listened to the commentary, What Andrea! You want some quotes? It features Ang Lee and James Schamus (writer); it also features an interview with Michelle Yeoh.
I don't know anything about bootlegs - only that I wouldn't go get one on purpose; but this is a beautiful transfer and it has the goods. Go to the site yourself and look at what I saw.

Ric, I wasn't accusing you of anything, just wondering if you got a bootleg or legit copy, based off of what I've read about the Region 0 version. No need to get defensive. Just wanted to alert you if you needed/wanted to exchange your DVD if it isn't legit.

This is probably overkill, but ...

Steve McIver with a genuine copy of the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (bottom) and a bootleg version.

I just want people to know that there are bootleg versions out there.

There is a long discussion on the legitimacy of the CTHD R0 DVD here:

[Link: dvdtalk.com]

From page 3 of this discussion, here a suggestion on how to tell if you have a legit copy or not:

If you've got one of the Region 0 CTHD DVD's there's an easy way to prove that it is legit, or a bootleg. Look on the back of it. There should be a Malaysian Film Board Certificate sticker on it that's about 3" long and is watermarked and barcoded.

It's broken up into 3 sections. 1 left panel, top and bottom.

On the left should be a coat of arms with "Akta Filem (Penapisan) 1952 above it.

The top panel should have a barcode and serial #

The bottom panel is the largest and has:

Tajuk: Film Title
Pengedar: Name of authorized Malaysian distributor
No. Perakuan: Some kind of long VIN type #
Tarik: A date of some sort, perhaps manufacture date?

On the left hand side of the bottom panel will be a signature with "Pengerusi Lembaga Penapis Filem Malaysia" underneath it.

If it doesn't have that, it's a bootleg. There's no way around it. That sticker is basically a Govt seal of authenticity from the Director of the Malaysian Film Board. If you've got Malaysian DVD's and VCD's at home, look through them for this sticker. I bet some have them, and some don't. If they don't, they're bootlegs. It's Malaysian law that every legitimate film have these stickers to prove they've been authorized for release by the Malaysian Film Board.
