My brother-in-law has the following: a Diamond Viper V770 AGP and a Pioneer 113 DVD player installed in his new computer. He would like to send the audio & video from the DVD player to his dolby digital receiver in his den. He has several problems / questions:

1: There are no outputs on the video card.
a: is there an internal cable that he can install to run the outputs to a receiver?
b: what high quality video card(s) have Dolby digital outputs?

2: If the video card has s-video output:
a: is there a way to convert this to RCA type?

3: He has an X-10 DVD anywhere system (uses RCA type connectors) to transmit and recieve via 2.4 gig. and would like to utilize it as his computer is in his bedroom and the main TV is in the den.
a: can this be used?
b: can he still get Dolby Digital with this?

Many thanks to all who can assist!

Sincerely,

Mark

Mark,

I can answer some of your questions:

3) X10 DVD Anywhere does not transmit Dolby Digital, the Anywhere only has Composite Video, and 2 L/R Audio.

2) If the video card has S-Video, then there are products available that will convert S-Video to Composite.

1) I think there is a mix-up here. Video card has nothing to do with Audio. Therefore, you shouldn't be looking for Dolby Digital from a video card. Dolby Digital Output (Coax) can be had from SBLive Sound Card. I have a SBLive full version and the daughter card has Digital In/Out and it will transmit AC3 signals to the receiver.

In order to transfer DVD video/audio to another room, you'll need a video card that has Video Out (either S-Video and/or Composite). A sound card that has Digital Output. Of course, you'll also need a software that will decode AC3 properly. I'd recommend to use WinDVD as it's very fast and nice video.

Hope it helps you.

The DVD player I got, a Sony, came with a decoder card. On the card it has s-video, and regular RCA jack outputs. If yours only came with software decodeing, you might try to see if you can get a decoder card for it. That has a double benifet. 1. You can get s-video, or RCA out. And,
2. It helps take the strain off of the computer CPU.

Hope this helps
