Hello All,

If I do this it will have to be a combo player. I'm not touching the LG combo for personal reasons. Any good combo players being released around the holidays?

If you fail to include all brands, you decide ahead of time that "best" is not your only criterion. You're then only interested in those that pass some kind of personal test outside of good or bad.

What is your bias against LG? If, somehow, everybody thinks they're the best, what will it take for you to agree?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ernie,

I had a very bad experience with a LG 1080 upconvert player. After 5 trips to the manufactor this problem still remains. So no LG video products for me. But they do make great cell phones.

In my opinion the best combo is actually two standalone units. Potentially lower price. Pick the best from each side. Split them up down the road if your HD A/V needs change.

LG has a new model coming out or already out. You might want to find and read as many online reviews if you can. Why? As you already pointed out sometimes LG gets it right. Their next right may be that new combo player you absolutely don't want.

I would agree two standalone players is a better option. But there is a great dual format player coming out soon by Samsung. The first review of the BD-UP 5000 can be read at HD Guru.com.

It sounds like it has the potential of being a great machine. It has the Silicon Optix’s Reon chip. It will do 1080p/24. And besides having HDMI 1.3 it also has 7.1 analog audio connections. And last but not least it will support the lossless formats TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. It might need a firmware upgrade to do HD MA though.

There's only three combo players out or coming out period, two LGs and the Samsung. So far the only one shipping is, I believe, the LG.

So if you don't want the LG, you don't get a combo player today! :-)

Otherwise, you'll have to wait for the Samsung (December) which *does* sound pretty good.

6month has a dilema. The only player available he won't even consider.
