And if it's a commercial tape with macrovision (copy protection) then it probably will refuse to copy to the DVD.

I use a standalone VCR through a SIMA video stabilizer to my DVD recorder. Works all the time, and I can then still record from the DirecTV box or any other video source I have.

Can this be used to copy a DVD? I was trying to show a client how to record on his DVD recorder and all we had was DVDs. The satellite wasn't in yet and there was no VCR. I ended up getting a $5.99 reissue of two movies from 1948.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

By the way, it's not a stupid question, and your sense of humor shows by you spelling it stoopid. So very many reasonable assumptions just aren't true.

For instance, we almost sold a network receiver to a guy in the hills here in Los Angeles having problems getting KLOS. We figured out just what to do, but for some reason I googled "KLOS STREAMING." The actual text shown on google says that KLOS and other ABC stations aren't streaming due to RIAA...etc. Who the hell'd a thunk?
