I am looking for a quality universal remote, something that I can program. I have a friend who suggested a Pronto 3xxxx something but I did some research and what I have read you need to be 'installer' level to get the unit programmed.
So could some one suggest a 'solid' unit with a somewhat user friendly interface.
Thanks...

URC's MX series. MX-500, MX-700, MX-850, MX-900, etc. Somewhat complicated but should be no problem for someone with some computer experience.

Do you have one of these MX series? If so what Model and how long did it take you to program it. Also I need IR - any suggestions.

Just got one the other day, a MX-700 that is. Took me a little over an hour...with macros and all I think. I had kinda played around with the software before I bought it to become familiar with it though.
You need IR? Huh? IR is what every remote has to emit signal. Do you mean RF? If you need RF, you might want to go with the MX-850, which is basically the same as the MX-700 but with some improvements and the addition of RF.

I would stay away from your friends recommendation. The pronto TSU3000 series is a grayscale touchscreen remote with a few hard buttons. This remote is more difficult for a consumer to program than a URC MX remote and the touchscreen is not as easy to see or use on a daily basis. If you need RF capabilities I'd recommend the MX-900 (which is replacing the 850) and an MRF-300 RF kit. Buy it from an authorized dealer either local or otherwise that will support you in your programming efforts. If you require programming assistance let us know in the URC forum. Keep in mind that professional programming for your system would range between 200 and 500 dollars; it may be money well spent depending upon your ability and frustration levels.
