Wondering who knows what about this new generation of DVD units with the DVI output. Seems I have found 3 units on the market, have checked out the Samsung (DVD-HD931) and was not impressed.

Has anyone seen or tested the Bravo V1 or the new Denon (DVD-5900).

The Samsung sells for about $300 in town. The Bravo is $200 online.

As for the Denon, well break the piggy bank out, Cruthcfield will be selling it for $2000.

Is 720P that important? Is the native digital interface these units provide that much better than component?

Seems like I need to find a V1 ---

btw- there is a 4 week lead time on ordering the V1 form the V website.

The Denon is a much different animal that the other machines you mentioned. The Denon plays many more formats and plays them better anyway. The question is, what are you looking for? Why get a machine just for the DVI output if the signal being sent through the DVI output isnt going to be as good/clear as it can be?

Actually, that is what I said, is the 720p that much more important? Is the DVI that much better than component?

As for the Denon, it seems like there is nothing it cannot do. But again, the $2000 price tag is a little discouraging.

The question, once again, is who here has seen, tested, has an opinion about the new DVD units with DVI output capability.

I have seen the Samsung and was not impressed. While there was a definite improvement in picture quality, certain areas of the unit faltered.
Some observations:
$300 dollars as opposed to $200 for the Bravo
The remote was a HUGE POS.
The unit DOES come with a noname 4 foot DVI cable.
It has customizable menu screens (will accept your jpegs).
Will ReScale your DVD's to eliminate letterbox.

Let me know if you have any input/have seen or own the Bravo. I am really interested in a comparison between the Samsung and the Bravo.

Wait a bit. There is already the Pioneer 59ai for around $1000. There are MANY DVI players announced for this year. They may even dip below $100, who knows?

AVS Forum has had mega-threads on the 3 original players -Bravo, Samsung, Momitsu- for months. There are many comparisons and comments about the good and the bad of all of these. The Denon, too.

LG digital makes one for around $275CDN but I was a little put off on the image transistion and edging problems. I have a Toshiba CRT with DVI in and will wait for the technology to settle down and mature a bit. Just MHO.

Thanks and happy listening
