I need some help. I was given as a gift a Kenwood
KR-V87R and Kenwood DVD player with two Pioneer speakers. I have a Phillips DVD player hooked up at the moment. What I want to do is run everything through the receiver but where do I begin? I have no instructions. Who out there has this receiver?
Thanks, m

Thank you for helping us. With your help, the CD is now playing through the speakers. We have RED-White to Tape 1 record; Yellow to Left IN.
TV is not coming through speakers.
VCR, working, but not through speakers.
here is the back layout.
Phone--CD--Aux--Tape 1--Tape 2--Video 1--Video 2
What does aux do?

CB made an error: he said to connect the TV audio out to the receiver, but never to connect any audio in to the TV. Only TV tuner sound could be fed to the receiver that way.

My advice is to use the TV as a video monitor only, and always use the receiver for sound, thus:

VCR red, white, and yellow to VCR input on receiver.
DVD red, white, and yellow to DVD input on receiver.
Monitor (yellow) out from reciver to video in on TV.

Now, if you use the TV for TV tuning, you should add a red and white from TV audio out to another red and white input on receiver (aux or something else) and keep TV volume at minimum, mute or (if possible) speakers off.

In any case, don't intermix audio and video. The plug colors don't really matter; they're just colored to help you keep them straight. The important thing is that the colors are kept straight from component to component: audio to audio, left to left, right to right.

I think we said the same thing, or at least I was thinking the same thing. All audio and video to the reciever, Monitor out to the reciever, audio out of TV to reciever audio in.
Tv is used as a monitor only, all audio is controled thru reciever.

CB, why the audio from TV to reveiver? Unless the TV't tuner is being used, it's an unnecessary connection. I'm suggesting TV as monitor only, like a projector.

You dont have to use it, personal choice, I use it for pip, and if you want to watch one program and record another. Depends on the job at hand.

Your right about using the tv as a monitor. Everything is on and working fine. I have found as I work on the computer that if you ask, you'll get answers. I am quite proud that we have a great entertainment center and IT IS WORKING! Not bad for a near retired MOM!
