I'm sure this issue has been discussed here before but I can't seen to find the propper thread.

I've got a sony cx985 (400dvd player) that starts to play the last movie viewed every time It gets powered up. Sorry to dig this issue up again but can anyone point me toward a solution or work around?

Thanks

I found this that thread. It is more about getting out of the "operation prohibited by disk" at the beginning of each dvd. I'm looking for a solution, short of leaving the player on 24-7, that would keep the player from automatically playing the last disc accessed every time it's powered up.

Anyone??

Thanks

A stop before powering the player off works for me on an 870 and an 875. That way the player "remembers" being in its waiting for input phase and waits for a play or root menu call to do anything. Love to know if that works on the 985 as I am looking at it myself.

Thanks to ccbates! The stop before power off seems to work fine. The player still loads the last disk played but it does not accually play it.

By the way, since you are considering purchasing oa 985. . . I am very happy with the player as I use it. Quantified, that means, the pic quality is excellent and the mechanical operation is good. I have 300+ disks loaded for about 6 weeks now. No jams, No problems. I will say however that the "Folder Interface" is in my estimation useless. Too slow and to difficult to use to find or play your selction. Not to mention tedious to input the data.

But forunately I use Super Nude to load all dvd data in my pronto. Its slick and easy to use. All of my dvds perfectly organized in my pronto. Two buttons is all that is required to find and play a selection.

If I had to use the onboard 'Folder" system I'd send it back and buy anouther pioneer 727. I order the new Kenwood (very expensive) 5900 and was not impressed (I can give you the reasons if your interested). I have a 65" HD Wide Tv (using component outputs) and with 13 years as a broadcast engineer it was my experience that the pic with the sony ($399 List) is better than that of the Kenwood ($1400 List)

For what it's worth. . .

If you have any other questions before you buy let me know here and I'll try to help.

Thanks again.

I'm having the same complaint with the onboard Folder system. Have you found, or heard of a work around that doesn't require the player to load up the list (i.e. is there just a remote keypad sequence to take it to the disc number of your choice)?

An alternative is to have the player move to a particular disc before shutting down.

I have a customized start-up disc with the name of my home theatre, some trivia and the like that plays while we get settled to watch a movie.

I don't like the autoplay feature (and believe me, it can't be disabled regardless of what the manual says) but this is one way to taking advantage of it.

I have the 875 and the sequence I have programed into each button in my movie list is as follows:
Each is an alias, and the example is for disc 152
Disc explorer-display
delay
disc explorer-right arrow
delay
number pad-1
delay
number pad-5
delay
number pad-2
delay
number pad-enter
delay
disc explorer-display
personally, I don't mind the folder system at all. But I rarely use it unless I have company. It lets them see what I have to choose from, without leaving the couch, or passing the remote around. My guess is that it will work on the other players. let us know if it works for you as well.

I have an issue related to the above with my 860: I don't really mind the autoplay that much in itself, it is the auto shut-off when it is in stopped mode that annoys me. Does anyone know how to get rid of this?

(As it is now I have a choice between always leaving it playing a DVD (e.g. leaving it in MENU mode) which I guess slowly wears it out, or letting it shut off automatically and then having to suffer through the auto play when I switch it off)

I have three of the Sony DVP-CX985V's. The 1200 disc loading macros to cover all 3 changers are sitting in my Pronto TSU7000. :-) Programming all of those was enough to drive a person batty. I survived though. :-P The macro I use is below.

stop
display
enter
disc slot number (numerical entry)
enter
display

These steps work the same directly from the original remote as well of course. It is the only way I found to load a disc directly. Would be nice not to have to enter the display menu, but what can you do. :-P

(The stop function at the beginning of the macro ensures that no disc is currently playing when the rest of the macro is executed. This is needed because if a disc is actively playing when you go to load another disc there are two display screens you have to advance out of at the end, not just one. By ensuring a disc is not playing first there is always only one display menu to advance out of at the end.)

I have never even seen the disc explorer feature for these mega-changers to tell you the truth. I read enough before I purchased these changers that I knew I needed to have another solution in place from the start.

If anyone uses a TSU3000/7000, I already have the IR codes learned and slot loading macros done for all 3 command modes. My current .pcf file can be downloaded below.

If it can save anyone some work, help yourself.

The auto-play feature by the way only works for music cd's. It works the same way for the Sony DVP-CX777ES as well. Very bad design implementation. Worst part about it is that Sony is still pretending that this was done by design and that it is not broke. I just always make sure when I am finished watching a disc that I hit stop. You have to hit stop where it will allow you to resume play from that given point or the work around will not work. It is not a big deal really. I was irritated at first going in, but it is a non-issue for me now. I can live with it.
