Just been having a conversation in the pub which was about moments in films that provoke a reaction. We had to narrow this down, so I'm talking about moments that gave you that surge of adrenaline, or made you jump, or shiver, or shudder or just say 'oh yeah! I'll give some examples, then you do it. 1. The moment in Se7en where Kevin Spacey walks into the precinct with his bloody hands up saying, "Detective. Detective. DETECTIIIIVE! I think... you're looking... for me." then Pitt rushes forward saying "Down! Get down! All the way down! Faster!" Good moment. 2. The first time we see what the kid sees (ie the first ghost) in 'Sixth Sense' 3. The bit in 'The Untouchables' where Sean Connery says "What the hell. Ya gotta die of something" then all of them charge round on their horses as the music swells. 4. And the original, I suppose, in 'Planet Of The Apes' when Charlton Heston sees the sunken head of the Statue of Liberty. Believe it or not, I'd be interested in any others you can describe. ------------------------------------ *********************** Vincent *********************** WC-Game Studio *********************** http://www.wcgame.com***********************

Okay, in no particular order:
In "My Cousin Vinny", when Lisa is on the stand, the prosecuting attorney asks about the ignition timing on a '57 Chevy with a 327 and four-barrel carburetor, asks why she can't answer the question, and Vinny sits back, crosses his arms and legs, and says, "Watch this."
In "Taps", in the empty armory, when the sherrif grabs Maj. Moreland, and the beret-wearing guys lock'n'load and draw bead on him. Ooh!
In "A Few Good Men", when pressed about ordering the code red by McCaffey, Col. Jessup hollers, "You're goddam right I did!"
In "The Shawshank Redemption", when the warden opens the safe, when he finds the old shoes, when he finds the tunnel, and discovers he's been had. (multiple shivers)
If TV shows count: one of my all-time faves, "The Paper Chase", and in one of my favorite episodes: when Prof. Kingsfield unshrouds Hart.
Give me more time, I can probably think of more.

In "Arlington Road", at the very beginning when the child is walking down the street, and the camera pans around and shows us....
Shivers all around.

The Haunting (1963 version). The investigators are gathered in the study, the pounding up and down the halls starts up again and in a closeup the door is being pressed inward by something in the hall. This was before computer graphics and really creeped me out. Oh yea, and that sound track . . .

"Uh, Houston, we have a problem!"
Several times throughout "The Firm". Great movie!
In "Godzilla", when the beast steps over the photographer, and he turns around and gives that maniacal laugh, I have that between-the-toes feeling, too..
How about the scene in "Galaxy Quest", when the cute little guys suddenly bare teeth and devour the wounded one? (Rock...rock...rock...rock...)
Speaking of "The Sixth Sense", I think the moment Dr. Crowe realizes he himself is dead! Yargh!
In "Cast Away", when Chuck climbs to the peak of the island and does a 360. Now, that's alone!
When I first saw "Toy Soldiers", I had a personal moment. (No, not movement.) I went to that school, The Miller School of Albemarle, just west of Charlottesville, Va, for two years.
All through the movie, "I know where they are!", "I know that place!" For example, the lake the Hummer rolls into is behind the school, not in front of it.
Also, the walls surrounding the 'commons' outside, where the dean found his office, were made for the movie. Gee, I may watch Toy Soldiers tonight!

In "Contact," recall the scene where Ellie is laying on the hood of her car in the desert, listening to the lonely distance between the stars. Slowly the thrumming of the alien signal creeps into her headphones, growing ever louder and clearer.
That scene gives me goosebumps for nearly five minutes straight, from the moment the signal starts until it suddenly stops. That abrupt silence sets my skin crawling again. As that heartquake slowly dies down, the goosebumps return anew when the signal sequence starts over.

After delivering the following monologue . . .
"You're always gonna to have problems lifting a body in 1 piece. Apparently the best thing to do is cut up the corpse into 6 pieces and pile it all tagetha. And when you got your 6 pieces you gotta get rid of 'em 'cause it's no good leavin' it in the deep freeze for your mum to discover now is it? Then I hear the best thing to do is feed them to pigs, you gotta starve the pigs for a few days then the sight of a chopped up body will look like curry to a **** head. You gotta shave the heads of your victims, pull the teeth out for the sake of the piggie's digestion. You could do this afterwards o' course but you don't wanna go siftin' through pig **** now do ya. They'll go through bone like butta. You need at least 16 pigs to finish the job in one sitting so be wary of any man who owns a pig farm. They will go through a body that weighs 200 pounds in about 8 minutes. That means that a single pig can consume 2 pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression 'as greedy as a pig'."
"Bricktop" leads his hapless audience into the next room where his associates are waiting - the room, by this time, having been properly prepared.

An unusual one, and one I use to show clients who aren't into explosive special effects, car chases etc, the value of a good home theatre.
First I show them Independence Day - the speach the president gives to the pilots before they take off to take on the alien invaders, using just the TV sound. The corny dialogue just makes you go "Oh Please" and laugh.
Then I play the same scene again on a good HT system, and even though you just saw it, and know whats coming, the musical score has so much more impact, that you can't help but choke up a little.

Aussia AV,
I have had the same demo done to me in "Castaway". Tom Hanks is about to sail out with his boat with "wings", and he finally makes it. A great moment with Shivers and a great spot for demo's of sound.
Cheers, K

Not on such a grand scale - but I found many memorable scenes in the HBO series Band of Brothers... loved it.
Jump scene - in "Signs" on a good HT with rear mid turned up... they're locked in the house, looking at the front door - and the back door slams rattling trying to be opened. Jeesh!@!!!
